WASHINGTON, June 6 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid issued the following statement on President Bush's speech on immigration reform today in New Mexico:
"President Bush has made an important step by engaging on immigration reform. Unfortunately, a photo-op in New Mexico won't make Republicans in Washington, D.C. support comprehensive reform. Just yesterday, Senate Republicans blocked the Senate's own bipartisan comprehensive reform plan from moving forward in Congress. After years of Bush Republican incompetence, our borders are unsecured and our immigration system is broken. The Senate took a major step toward fixing our immigration system. Now the president must convince his party to enact the comprehensive immigration reform our nation deserves."

"Bush: America Needs Comprehensive Immigration Reform"
"Creepy."
I don't want to add to your goosebumps, but I just read that Bubba Clinton was invited to speak at a college event by Bush's neice, (yes, the Bush's and Clinton's are friends). Bill Clinton said in his speech that he agrees with President Bush's immigration 'reform' plans. That's all I need to know about Bush. His recent stumping against homosexual pervert marriage is a huge smokescreen to divert attention away from his mainly LIBERAL policies that are making him one of the most unpopular Presidents of all time.
I have supported Bush on all but two issues and have never said that I hate him and I don't. The President makes mistakes but fewer than most.
Exactly. No one ever crossed the borders illegally from Mexico before President Bush took office in 2001 and this was specially true when Clinton was President. In fact during Clinton presidency the illegal immigrants who were already here were leaving on their own will. (extreme sarcasm).
Oops, make that TEN new Big Lies.
;-)
"Now the president must convince his party...."
Sounds like Reid has no intention of cooperating, doesn't it?
A. They pay their taxes.
B. They have to go to the end of the.
You mean the minority of Senate Reps want to keep it afloat. Most Senate Reps would like to sink it. For every one Senate Rep that voted for the bill, there were almost two Dems who voted for it.
Please add to that big wall a BIG STICK. Amen.
Was the "unconstitutional" provision slipped in by one of the republican opponents as a "bill-killer" under the radar, or were the pro-immigrant people just that stupid?
What we need is Border Control and Security Reform.
Once that's done, we can discuss immigration reform. And frankly, we don't really need reform, what we need is enforcement of existing laws.
FBI's Mueller: Hezbollah Busted in Mexican Smuggling Operation
He's only saying the same things President Bush is saying.
Okay, correction accepted. 20 plus Senate Reps are doing their best to keep it afloat by joining with the Democrats. The very same are joining together to give Hawaii away.
Reps who voted for the bill: Chafee (R-RI); Cochran (R-MS); Collins (R-ME); Domenici (R-NM); Fitzgerald (R-IL); Lugar (R-IN); McCain (R-AZ); Snowe(R-ME); Specter (R-PA); Thompson(R-TN); and Warner (R-VA).
I certainly cannot argue with that! :)
Which is why I'm rejecting the argument we must elect anti-American RINO's that some of the GOP cheerleading section still persist in making. The best thing that could happen is for Laffey to defeat Chafee and give the RINO's a real scare.
Seems with TN it's always someone. First Thompson, now Frist. Hopefully the people down there do a better job of weeding the right candidate out of the pack of three for the seat. Far as I'm concerned people should let Collins and Lugar lose this year. Ditto DeWine.
Warner is said to be on his way for retirement in a couple of years.
McCain I am personally invested in destroying with his second attempt to be president.
I really don't know.
The CW is that they were just that stupid, while their aides knew but hoped no one would notice.
Does that mean not one member of the 100 knew and chose to say nothing hoping it would damage the chances of passage? That's up to you to decide. Given there were over 600 pages, it's possible it wasn't noted. We're all aware most of the Senate didn't even read it. But did Sessions know? His staff DID examine the legislation. They could have missed it, or not.
The only reason to keep the RINOs is to control the agenda in Congress. You saw what happened with the Jeffords' defection. We need to do more to get Rep Senators from states like North Dakota (the entire Cong delegation is Dem), South Dakota, Nebraska, Indiana, and Montana.
