Something that is being overlooked in this whole illegal invasion by aliens and our governments inability to do anything about it is our own elderly.
Many older Americans who have worked hard all their lives and paid taxes and Social Security so that they could live in some comfort when they reached the age of retirement are being left in the dust.
Congress can give 12 million illegal aliens the right to stay in this nation to protest, procreate, receive support monies, attend schools, avoid paying income taxes, and cause our teachers to have 300 hours each of English as a second language training at our expense, etc. Yet they cant do anything but rob from Social Security and leave our own elderly with nothing. This makes me angry as I am about to become one of those elderly, and it should make you angry as you will all get there one day -- if you arent already.
This nation owes everything that it is to those older Americans who have worked hard and served this nation for all those years. Many of them went off to war and served to keep this nation free and great. Others stayed home here in this nation helping in too many ways to even list. They vote and they expect the government to do what is right. None of them expect the government to take care of their every need and most would like to keep the government out of their day-to-day lives; however, it just doesnt work that way any more.
The one area all need help in is the medical side of things. Many, like me, cant get or afford medical insurance and need Medicare to help with those medical needs. Yet, if we sign in as an illegal alien, most likely it will all be taken care of at no cost to us.
The cost of having everything printed in two languages and having teachers and others learn a second language would pay for most medical expenses for the elderly. I say if they are living here and cant understand English, then they should be sent back to wherever they came from. Its not our job to take care of them and all their needs. The first time they print the ballot in more then English, then we should march on Washington D.C., take every elected official out, lock them up and get new ones.
It has gotten so bad, I must have the 4473 form everyone fills out, when purchasing a firearm from an FFL dealer, on hand in Spanish at Bay Area Firearms.
The way I feel, if they cant read the form in English, then why are we selling them a firearm? I understand some can speak English and not read it. I also know that the 4473 is a complicated form to read and understand. My feeling is if they have a hard time, then they should bring someone with them to help them with it.
I guess the bottom line is we are giving special rights and privileges to the illegals and not even giving a second thought to our elderly Americans. Right now the baby boomers like me are reaching that great age of retirement and we will have the largest population of elderly this nation has ever had to assist living here. How will they deal with that? I think they will stick their heads in the sand and ignore it hopping it will just go away. Well, I have news for them. We will not walk softly into the night, never to return.
I can see it now -- a river of old people in wheel chairs and walkers, descending on the capitol in protest. We may be old, but we will be vocal. They will know we are here and we will not be ignored.
The invaders from the South get it all, thanks to our lousy senators!
Say what? Where was this guy for the last 23 years as the feds spent every penny of the Social Security surplus?
This is yesterdays news, you need to keep up.

WASHINGTON - Tens of millions of low-income Americans will soon have to show their birth certificates or U.S. passports if they want to obtain health care through their state Medicaid programs.

The requirement that beneficiaries provide proof of citizenship goes into effect July 1. It's designed to root out cases of illegal immigrants getting their health care paid for by the government
Well...the elderly vote. They consistently turn out for elections. If they start to raise a fuss about the high costs of illegal immigration, the politicians will listen.
See? We should have voted for the bloated Algore! He would have put all that social security money in a locked box!
The liberals spin immigration as being good for social security and medicare. That's absurd. The taxes the average worker pays do not currently cover the cost of social security and medicare benefits. Importing millions of low wage workers who don't pay even as much as the average worker in taxes is just going to make the problem worse.
Can you give us the link? I googled and couldn't find the article.
But what you say is in contrast with what Mayor Bloomberg said last week - he specifically told aliens not to fear seeking treatment; not to worry about their status, etc. And isn't this the concept that the voters in California tried to adopt years ago, only to have shot down by the 9th Circus?
Do you think this is really going to be adhered to? I'm a little skeptical, altho I hope it is.

BUSH AND THE REPUBLICANS DID THIS
The article left me here. Seniors are soaking up a big portion of the budget and have a big problem with anyone who suggests that maybe others need to keep more of their own money so they can afford to raise a family. Seniors are one of the biggest lobbies around for more government intrusion into our lives - just watch the AARP in action.
Today's seniors were sold (and accepted) a bill of damaged goods re SS, they never paid enough into the system to offset the benes they're getting, and they are the major group standing in the way of meaningful, rational reform such as individual accounts that might allow those of us who pay 15% a year into the system to maybe afford a retirement of our own.
The bill required that Medicaid applicants show a birth certificate or U.S. passport but gives the administration leeway in saying other documents could be acceptable. An example might be a sworn affidavit that describes why documentary evidence does not exist or cannot be obtained.
Directors of community health centers, which specialize in helping the poor access health care, have asked the administration to accept as proof of citizenship report cards, voter registration cards, tribal documents and military ID cards.
Sounds like it won't be all that effective if the report card change is made, and who do they swear an affidavit to? The hospital who is hungry for Medicaid monies?
One other question. How much of the illegal alien healthcare is paid for by medicaid? I thought one complaint from the hospitals was that they were not being reimbursed for most of the costs, so, will this bill be much of a drop in the bucket or is it just going to shift the burden further from the Federal to the State and local govts?

Well first of all, they need to eschew themselves of AARP anti-American "you can't function without us" crap and get serious about what's at stake with our Nation. I'm in the "elderly" class and it seems my age group is only concerned about "what's in it for me" socialism, flitting around in their Buicks instead of continuing to be an example to their kids and grandkids, teaching them the values that this (once) great nation was founded on. Some do, but not enough.
My generation was taught directly by "the greatest generation" but we have allowed garbage mouth speech, dumbing down of education, allowed socialist/Marxist philosophy to gain a foothold, all by not doing our duty and standing against this scourge. We abdicated our responsibilities. My opinion of course, but it sure seems to hold water! We (my generation) seems to be the pivot point on these matters.
Now, the good part is: look at our wonderful military personnel, God bless those "youngsters", my heart sings when I see them on TV, in public and read of such remarkable achievements accomplished by them. I'm not kidding, my heart skips a beat when I see them.
While your post 11 is spot on, you are wasting your time arguing.
The point of the article is to scapegoat the illegals for everything from the WOT, to Social Security to "I have a hangnail".
Agreed. The problem is their children. They spawned the most self-centered and self-oriented generation that the nation has ever seen. The baby-boomers will treat their parents the same way that they've treated their children, via "daycare" and pawning them off to society. They wouldn't want to have their lives in convenienced.
Before people pile on, clearly not referring to all BBs.
BTW, where's the AARP on this issue! Hmmm...
They know where their bread gets buttered.
federal spending on medicaid is about 250 billion a year
the states spend another 100 billion or so.
I have no idea how much immigrants get.
But, but, I thought that illegals would help to heal the social security system... /s
I suspect the burden will just shift, since I'm pretty sure that by law the hospitals MUST treat them. Someone will pay it. Now it just won't be the feds.

from usa today
"States continue to face long-term financial pressure from the soaring cost of Medicaid, the state-federal program that provided medical insurance for 57 million low-income people last year. State spending on Medicaid rose 8.1% to $119 billion in 2004, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services."
another article put medicaid for the federal level at 220 billion for 2002.
