Federal agents in the Department of Homeland Security are angry. They know something we don't: President Bush is arrogantly assuming his proposed Guest Workers amnesty is a done deal. And hes spending on the still illegal program like a drunken sailor. The agents see the handwriting on the wall in the form of government job postings on the Net. Agents point out that new hiring and job openings at Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS) have suddenly ballooned (here and here). The ONLY reason that would happen is to hire new workers to administer the new Guest Workers program. Says one Homeland Security federal agent:
Another agent reports that the job openings are for Adjudication Officers: "who will be reviewing and APPROVING all amnesty and guest worker applications."
"You will write detailed decisions on applications/petitions filed with USCIS." . . . Did you happen to notice most of those jobs were opened on June 1st? That means the money for these positions had to have been approved months ago, and the only people who can approve such a large appropriation would be?... yep. CONGRESS!Normally they have 20 to 30+ various positions open at any given time within CIS. This week, however, there are over 100. Interesting that they are seeking massive quantities of Adjudication Officers GS-9/12, all over the country. Some areas don't even specify how many openings are available. I haven't seen this since pre-IRCA of 1986...AKA "AMNESTY". It is no secret now., the decision has already been made. It WILL happen. Since they are not beefing up on Deportation Officer positions, their direction/intention is obvious.
The job description states:
Over the past several months, President Bush has repeatedly told us he wants to stem the rising tides of illegal aliens invading our borders. He's repeatedly insisted that he wants "a complete package," meaning he won't sign off on strict border and interior enforcement of immigration laws unless they come with the Guest Workers amnesty.
But the Bush administration's hiring behavior betrays Bushs claim that stricter enforcement is the priority. More amnesty is. That's especially disturbing since the Bush version of immigration--especially amnesty--is illegal for now. And it's unlikely Bush will convince the House to go for it. Yet, he's spending as if that has already happened.
The American people want strict enforcement at the borders and tough interior enforcement first. Then, theyll think about whether to reward illegal behavior. But Bush wants to reward illegal invasion first, and let the chips fall where they may. The USA Jobs postings tell the story. Talk about premature articulation.
If only this were just about cart-before-horse hiring on yet another government boondoggle. But this is about putting illegal aliens first, ahead of America's security.
If this is the complete package, why is there a gag gift inside?
It's obvious that we have never had a program in place to ENFORCE our immigration laws. Illegals come here and disappear into US thin air. Anyone with a brain knows that we also will never be able to ENFORCE any new bill that proposes illegals must learn English or pay fines. SO. The time has come for action! We should organize a nationwide TOURIST boycott! STOP travel to Mexico until Vicente agrees to be more cooperative and until our elected representatives agree to ENFORCEMENT. Watch congress sputter while they have to 'splain to their Mexican trade/tourism lobbies why nobody is traveling there anymore. It's called leverage, and WE THE PEOPLE do have power!
"It's called leverage, and WE THE PEOPLE do have power!"
We're going to need to do more than just stop tourism to Mexico.
Wrong. The Clinton administration deported 1.5 million in one year back in the late 1990's with a TOTAL (not just the portion that handles illegals) INS budget of $5.2 billion.
So it is certainly possible, both budgetarily and man-power-wise to deport even the 11 million illegals already here. Monetarily, the necessary increase in INS budget won't even show up as a blip in the overall federal budget.
This kind of thing is what pushes people too far. People who have always been republicans but then abandon the party, people who have somewhat followed politics and then give up, etc. >>>
Yeah, soi-disant "Republicans" who will crawl on broken glass until the inevitable day comes when the President is right and they're wrong--then they stab him in the back.
Yes and there is no one more despicable than an arrogant dufus, which is what Bush has turned into.
Republican, meet broken glass. Time to crawl and vote. Republican.
Of course, the President is wrong on this issue.>>
"Of course"?
What makes you different from the Dems when you say this?
Of course we have to do more. But it would be a start. And it would be a way to draw more attention to the issue. After all, WHY support (through tourist dollars) the corrupt Mexican govt that *encourages* it's illiterate and unskilled workers to cross the border and knowingly break the law?
I'd add no citizenship path, that's for immigrants not migrant workers, and should be a separate, distinct path. Education for children, but no other benefits, no Earned Income Tax Credit, mandatory health insurance funded by employers (don't like that one, but the alternative is government funding), and limited ability to move up the employment ladder. A guest worker who attends truck driving school on weekends doesn't get to displace a driver, regardless of how admirable his efforts may be.
In 2003, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the creation of a new Customs and Border Protection Officer (CBPO) position and the One Face at the Border initiative. Under this plan, a new position, the CBPO, would combine the duties of legacy inspectors from Customs, the Immigration and Nationalization Service (INS) and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) into a single front-line border security position. With 41,000 employees, CBP is in control of 317 official ports-of-entry for travelers and cargo.
Essentially, the One Face at the Border initiative was aimed at unifying the inspection process that travelers entering the United States have to go through. Instead of making three stops an Immigration Inspector, a Customs Inspector and an Agriculture Inspector travelers would meet with a single primary inspections officer who was specially trained to do the job of all three.
Consolidating these three organizations has caused logistical and institutional chaos and has taken attention away from critical homeland security priorities. It is true that all three of these organizations deal with front line border and port security, but they do so in very different capacities.
Please email your Members of Congress asking them to oppose the "One Face at the Border" initiative and support a detailed, independent review of the proposal.
It hasn't. The House passed what they wanted and the Senate passed what they wanted and now they can all go to the midterms proclaiming "here is what I did" or "I voted against that." The pubies can't get real enforcement rolling because they have too many sellouts and the dems don't really want anything to happen because they would go back to having nothing for an election issue in November. That is why we are now seeing homos as the big issue that must be resolved, not the future existence of this nation.
Which of these national issues do you believe is most important?
Gay marriage 1% 28 votes
Illegal immigration 33% 1198 votes
War in Iraq 27% 988 votes
Border security 26% 940 votes
Public education 2% 76 votes
Health care 11% 382 votes
Total: 3612 votes

Border security and illegal immigration combined (why were they seperated?) 59%... gays 1%. Despite the fact that it has nothing to do with any real issue regarding the future of the Nation, what are we seeing being worked on in DC? The homos.
I said I was playing devil's advocate...the devil's in the details, LOL!
According to Media Matters, Bush has never proposed a "path to citizenship" citing several fact sheets and speeches.
Jeff Sessions proposed an amendment to ban EITC for immigrants, but it was defeated. The amendment can be found here. We agree on the health insurance. On limited ability to move up, that is already covered under the employer's responsibility to make a good faith effort to find an American to fill the job.
It's a done deal. It's the cheap labor lobby pure and simple. Look for wage deflation to continue. And for professional jobs, too. Now we are importing even more college educated folks to do jobs college educated Americans "won't do" (won't do for $7 and hour, that is.)
Comprehensive Immigration Reform Must Address The Reality That Millions Of Illegal Immigrants Are Here Already
The President Opposes Amnesty. Amnesty would be unfair to those who are here lawfully, and it would invite further waves of illegal immigration. There is a rational middle ground between granting an automatic path to citizenship for every illegal immigrant and a program that requires every illegal immigrant to leave.
The President Believes Illegal Immigrants Who Have Roots In Our Country And Want To Stay Should Have To Pay A Meaningful Penalty For Breaking The Law, Pay Their Taxes, Learn English, And Work In A Job For A Number Of Years. People who meet these conditions should eventually be permitted to apply for citizenship like other foreign workers, but approval would not be automatic - and they will have to wait in line behind those who played by the rules and followed the law.
On limited ability to move up, that is already covered under the employer's responsibility to make a good faith effort to find an American to fill the job.
The ability to find an American to "fill the job" is wage dependent. Guest workers will have a level of mobility they didn't have as illegals. Like it or not, wage rates will drop in reaction to the enhanced labor pool. The "find an American" provision will be easily bypassed. And if an employer "finds" an American at reduced wages, that still has an economic impact.
If we don't fight back, we deserve to lose!!
