Vatican Condemns Contraception, Abortion, Same-Sex Marriage
Breaking News.ie ^ | 6/6/06

The Vatican today issued a sweeping condemnation of contraception, abortion, in-vitro fertilisation and same-sex marriage, declaring that the traditional family has never been so threatened as in today’s world.

The document was issued by the Pontifical Council for the Family, whose head, Cardinal Alfonso Lopez Trujillo, is a strong opponent of the use of condoms under any circumstances.

However, the document did not mention an ongoing debate within the Vatican on whether the Roman Catholic Church could permit condoms to battle Aids when one partner in a marriage had the virus.

It reaffirmed the famous 1968 encyclical “Humanae Vitae” that stated the Vatican’s opposition to contraception.

Since then, it said, couples “have been limiting themselves to one, or maximum two children”.

“Never before in history has human procreation, and therefore the family, which is its natural place, been so threatened as in today’s culture,” said the 57-page document.

Or the Natural Family Planning method, if used correctly.

Yeah. My Catholic mom used this method. Unfortunately for her, my Catholic dad did not. Result? 7 kids.

I don't consider it evil. It was a poor choice of words. MY ERROR!

I am a Roman Catholic and they are not living in the real world when it comes to contraception.

Who are "they?" The Vatican?

I guess this means that porn is okay. They covered just about everything else thus if they did not want to approve porn they would have said so.

My guess is that you were having joking above. But seriously, here's what is the official Catholic teaching.

2354 Pornography consists in removing real or simulated sexual acts from the intimacy of the partners, in order to display them deliberately to third parties. It offends against chastity because it perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each other. It does grave injury to the dignity of its participants (actors, vendors, the public), since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others. It immerses all who are involved in the illusion of a fantasy world. It is a grave offense. Civil authorities should prevent the production and distribution of pornographic materials.

You took it the wrong way. They are necessary in this world. NO MAN AND OR YOUNG MAN IS GOING TO KEEP HIS PANTS ZIPPED ALL THE TIME! I have not met one Have you? How many virgin males do you know that aren't young boys? I am a Roman Catholic and they are not living in the real world when it comes to contraception.

Yes, in fact, I've met several of both sexes. You are correct that there are fewer and fewer today than there were in earlier years.

But the bottom line is that should the Church water down the Divine Law because society these days is growing more and more perverse?

Because if they water down the standards here, then, perhaps what's next?

How about:

Something is either moral or its not.

If one bases his morality upon what's acceptible in society, then I'd submit that that person has no core morality at all.

That may be OK for some "churches", but I, for one, am thankful that the Church has more of an eternal outlook.

Thank God, then, the Vatican is not "living in the real world."

It stops the spread of AIDS in 95% of cases....

Female Condom and AIDS (UNAIDS Best Practice Collection Point of View: April 1997)
Facts and Figures:

* Cheap and reliable, the traditional condom (or male condom) is used by millions all over the world to avoid pregnancies. Until recently, it has also been the only barrier method for preventing the passing of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including HIV, between two sex partners. Used correctly every time people have sex, it is over 95% effective against the transmission of HIV.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Funny thing though, abstinence stops the spread 100% of the time.
The Catholic view is that sex is not a recreational endeavor, but needs to be confined to married couples, with the purpose of procreation. Therefore their stance makes sense. I do not want to see the Church adapting to fit "modern" sensibilities.
Well of course I totally agree with that. But its sooo hard to find people who are willing to be abstinent.
"Don't they actually have to use them, to be effective?"
Well since:
1. They obviously aren't being used, a fact everyone agrees with
2. There still exists this great desire that all these condoms that aren't being used be made available to all the non-users.
I could only assume that yes, they must be effective in preventing AIDS while sitting around in their shiny plastic package.
I think the hope is that at some point in the future the unused condom density will reach some critical mass thus coalescing into a 500ft tall AIDS fighting super prophylactic ball that makes "sweeechy sweeechy" sounds as it bounces around the world defeating AIDS.
Either that or condoms just provide a great cop-out allowing people to feeeeeeeeeeel they're doing something about AIDS with out having to go through the messy trouble of hurting anyone's sensibilities.
Honestly, my FRiend, it's not the church that has changed but society and who but the church will fight against it?
In my parish of 850 families (where there is an average of 4 kids per family ~ some going as high as 10), our young people are into the Chastity movement. You see our young adults with the t-shirts and rings.
At the other parishes in the area, they run around with the LifeTeen shirts and dressing like, whatever.... One of our Altar Boys confided to his sister who told me that the boys they know go there because the girls are willing to put out.
If the church does not remain ultraconservative in this issue, the young people will feel it is free reign to do whatever they want.
And both my Mom and Dad were virgins when married in 1950. I was until 34 years old. It can be done. It just takes some creativity.
It stops the spread of AIDS/HIV...
Would you bet your life on that? Would you bet the life of someone else?
Even if the condom doesn't break, the AIDS virus is several orders of magnatude smaller than the sperm cells the condom is designed to stop.
Well there is also the sick and twisted practice of "bug chasing" in the homosexual community... not to mention the X parties where guys get so high they don't know what they are doing and have unprotected sex with multiple partners....
Homosexuality, particularly among men, is a mental disorder characterized by narcicism and self destructive behavior. Many will gladly risk kill someone for a few minutes of their own pleasure.
