Thw Wall Street Journal article just sliced and diced the micro-testicles of arrogant mega-shyster Patrick Fitzgerald.

Spitzditz: "Your honor, I wish to place into evidence an OP-ED from the New York Times."

Judge: Request denied, and uh, this stupid lame-assed case is dismissed!

One of the mysteries of the recent yellowcake uranium flap is why the White House has been so defensive about an intelligence judgment that we don't yet know is false, and that the British still insist is true. Our puzzlement is even greater now that we've learned what last October's national intelligence estimate really said." WSJ July, 2003

And that mystery continues. It's hard not to wonder about the 16 words that launched this entire mess. The response from the White House has never made sense to me.

You are right Lancey, the original grand jury did indict LIbby, then that gj expired. Fitzy then went to another gj just so he could keep open some aspect of his "investigation". I would agree with the poster who said poor Walton, reading an editorial like this must make him worry. Fitzy has made a fool of himself, and he is making a fool of Walton as well. The liberal biased media against the administration, and Fitzy goes with the media. This case should be dismissed, Fitzy should hang his head in shame.

Hey, LH, I usually find myself agreeing with almost everything you have to say, but I cannot begin to give Fitzy any cover here by blaming his staff. Yes, his staff may well have played a major role in botching this deluded and incompetent 'investigation' but Fitzy is up to his eyeballs in idiotic statements, decisions, and misjudgments. He is the one in charge, and he should take the fall in a big way; his reputation should be savaged beyond all recognition. He can try to scapegoat his staff, but he's been the one in charge from start to finish, and he has to take the lion's share of the blame for this monstrosity.

Whoa!! Ha! Sorry I left the impression that I was giving Fitz "cover" by blaming his staff. No way! I happen to agree with every word you just posted, and then some. Fitz must bear the consequences of his own stubborness and stupidity.

I do happen to believe, however, that Fitz was not known as a political animal prior to his appointment as prosecutor in the CIA case. Fitz was good at chasing down mobsters and corrupt politicians, but in this case he is in way, WAY over his head. If Fitz had a more competent staff - - and that's HIS responsibility - - SOMEBODY on that staff would have smacked Fitz upside the head LONG AGO and told him to bail out.

Oh, now I see what you meant. Thanks for clearing that up for me - I would now say we agree approximately 100% on this matter. :^)

That's not what I said. And it isn't what Fitzgerald said. Libby says there is no way he would remember something as trivial as Wilson's lies and who he may have spoken to about them. Fitzgerald's reply is that it WAS a part of his job, and one he was actively engaged in - rather than some easily forgotten aside.

Libby was working hard at clearing us the mess the administration was handed as a result of Wilson's lies and spins.

He argues that he wasn't focused on Wilson's wife's postition other than her being the one who suggested him for the trip. I think it's completely plausible that details about her were little in the scheme of things, and easliy forgotten.

It's Wilson who decided to paint the picture that the White House was going after poor little Val to get back at him personally.

In fact, the White House/Libby and others were trying to fix the distortions that were being created about Iraq's pursuit of nuclear weapons and other WMD. They had no idea that they were getting caught in traps that Wilson, media folks, and eventually this pathetic prosecutor were setting.

Honest and honorable men shouldn't be fautled for not seeing *all* of the wickedness surrounding them.

I wonder how many times Fitzgerald wakes up at night, in a cold sweat, with the thought, "What if Joe Wilson is the liar"?

Uh...not once. Never.

Wonder if his staff has connections to those other paragons of Chicago political cleanliness...

One of my first thoughts on this issue today too, pinz. And not just the staff, I'll bet Fitz himself is heavily invested and obligated to the machine-operators of the People's Republic of Chicago Illinois.

Could that account for the look of sheer panic and desperation at his press conference to announce the indictment?

He had the deer in the highlights look at first....but found his footing and starting mugging for the cameras by the time it was over.

I sent this article out to my email list.

The gleam of sweat and that riduculous zit in the middle of his face were distracting. That man was stress-filled. Not that he has an ounce of sympathy from me!
