Re 5: PS-Yes, he did help eliminate a shortfall, he eliminated some of my son's physical, occupational, and speech therapists. Hell, my son didn't need to know how to walk, talk, or eat properly.

You sound like someone who is angry that they are not getting welfare.

Maine is pretty good about letting every family be self-reliant. On Swans Island, everybody knows this, and personal problems are not government problems.

It's well that all three of you out there don't have your hands out.

" You sound like someone who is angry that they are not getting welfare."

No, someone who is grateful that a civilized society helps people with mental retardation realize whatever potential God gave them. As the father of a son with Down Syndrome, I occassionally run up against conservatives who equate acting like a Christian, civilized human being and helping out people with mental retardation with wild eyed socialism/welfare cheating. Can't say as I like them much. Around here, happily, when they get into politics they generally get their heads handed to them.

We pay for our own private health insurance. We also have to pay for additional services that I pay taxes for. For all that I do the governor CUT services to special needs children.

Let me say that again.

HE CUT SERVICES TO SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN.

Yet he gives 7th graders laptops. You fail to understand the consequences of special needs children and the impact it will have on their lives forever. It is shown that when these children receive early intervention that are more likely to be semi-self sufficient thus saving the state on average $45,000 per year per special needs adult.

His priorities are screwed up.

Your off your rocker. Maine doles out more money to deadbeats and leeches than any other state.

On Swans Island, everybody knows this, and personal problems are not government problems.

Needing physical, occupation, speech, therapies is not a personal problem. I or my wife are not these type of therapists. That is why these professionals go to school and are certified. Obviously you do not undestand the impact of a professional working with a special needs child.

You sound like the governor, his latest proposal is that if services are at the same rate as an institution the state will take your child out of your home and put them in an institution to save money.

We have come along way regarding special needs children. We do not need to go back to this just so some kid can have a damn laptop.
