MOSCOW. June 5 (Interfax) - Understandings reached by the European Union Troika, Russia, the United States and China rule out the use of force against Iran, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Nezavisimaya Gazeta published on Monday.

Lavrov was asked whether any of the six countries at the Vienna meeting of foreign ministers had spoken of the possibility of using force against Iran, to which he answered: "Nobody did. Moreover, I can say that the understandings reached by the six nations rule out the use of force in any case."

No strike on Iran is possible after Vienna accords--Lavrov

ITAR-TASS (Russian Government)
05.06.2006, 10.49

MOSCOW, June 5 (Itar-Tass) - A strike on Iran was ruled out by the accords, which the leading world powers had reached in Vienna at the end of last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told the newspaper “Nezavisimaya Gazeta”.

The Russian diplomat said the sextet’s foreign ministers had agreed at their Vienna meeting “to put some very serious proposals to Iran”. “Namely, to start negotiations on the settlement of the dispute over its nuclear program after Tehran stops enriching uranium in keeping with the decision of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Work will be suspended also in the U.N. Security Council in view of this situation,” Lavrov explained.

He expressed the hope that Iran would positively respond to this call and would sit down at a conference table.

Is this the same Slavic version of W.C. Fields that recently called for one world government, with the US joining under the Commies?

The french foreign minister said the same thing about Iraq.

"My position is that whatever the circumstances, France will vote no," Mr. Chirac said.

I hope this isn't true, but the top story at the New York Times currently is reporting that we are offering the Iranians trade deals as part of our "incentive" package.

Trade deals... why didn't we think of that before? How about some nice dual-use guidance technology? That approach has kept us "best friends" with China.

If the New York Times story is true, then I think it is a poor strategy on our part.

"If the New York Times story is true"

It would be one of only a handful of times in it's history then.
