Morley Safer was no friend of Dan Rather when the two worked together on CBS "60 Minutes, according to a new unauthorized bio of Rather.
In the book "Lone Star due out in September author Alan Weisman writes that Safer "has not been a friend of Rathers for years, since their days in Vietnam.
The animosity dates back to when Rather replaced Safer soon after Safers report about a platoon of Marines burning a Vietnamese village.
"When Rather replaced me . . . he went to a group of Marines and said, If I were you guys, I would have shot him. Or words to that effect, Safer told Weisman. "And that my report should never have gone on their air.
Asked if Rather had dumped on Safer to curry favor with the Marines, Safer told Weisman: "Who the hell knows why?
Safer isnt the only CBS staffer to rip Rather in the biography, according to a report on the book in the New York Post.
Co-workers took Rather to task for his critical report on George Bushs service with the Air National Guard.
"In my opinion he was guilty of journalistic malpractice, former CBS News president Ed Joyce told Weisman.
"To go out on a limb with that sort of thin sourcing and then, when you get caught, go on the CBS Evenings News defending it in such an arrogant fashion was wrong.

Sounds like a 'must read'!

Sounds like a book that is looking to make money by preaching to the choir and the author wants to get paid for it.

we will be kicking this scum around for years. CBS, I predict though will have another Dan Rather experience from Katie Couric and we will be kicking her around for the rest of her life as well.

Those crazy kids! Staying up all night watching Safer and Wallace and Rather. They're all rebels, I tell you, and they will never ever be any good.

"In my opinion he was guilty of journalistic malpractice, former CBS News president Ed Joyce told Weisman. Then where the hell have these self-proclaimed "giants of the news business" been for the last 20 years?
Organizations like the Media Research Center have been chronicling Rather's abusive, weird, delusional, and outright unprofessional behavior and actions for years.
Type in "Dan Rather" into their search engine and you get 2,133 documented instances of Rather's incredible bias and out of control behavior.

Right behind him every step of the way as he led the pack. When Danny has took a bullet and was forced out, he became their shield and they honored his mighty journalism. Now when he's dead meat, they'll turn on him and finish him off. Their next act, of course, is to proclaim the beast dead, justice served and that they're the new champions of truth.
