Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)

OMG! I had not noticed, how funny!
HI guys....just popped in to see if they are planning on voting on anything today...
I have like ZERO time for computer OR TV today...
The only thing they have done is vote some judge onto the bench in New Jersey. They are at lunch now. I don't think anything is to be voted on until tomorrow.
Thank you.
According to the dems, an amendment that says marriage is limited to one man and one woman is "writing discrimination into the Constitution." Implicit in this is that not agreeing to legitimize gay marriage is discriminatory. Those that want to ban same sex marriage are, according to Lautenberg, a narrow interest group. How does he explain the huge numbers that come out to vote when given the opportunity?
Says it is wrong for congress to legislate for all states for all time ... HELLO
How did Feingold ever become a lawyer??
Is he really that stupid
Orrin Hatch is doing a great job on this. He wants to know whether, when the issue of creating a race based government in Hawaii comes up tomorrow, the same people will get up and say they should be talking about more important things. He is not pleased with the level of discourse on this issue. Taking Kennedy to task on his bigotry remark.
Hah, he's knocking the discrimination canard out of the park.
Go Orrin Go!
He is a great clean up batter on this. Points out that they want a cloture vote rather than an up or down vote because they don't want a vote against it on their record.
Thanks so much for the play-by-play....
I heard John Gibson (I think) last night on had radio show, saying that "they" are doing this the wrong way..
That since marriage in America has been one man/one woman, since our country was created...it should be up to the special interest group, the gays...to have to make a case WHY THEY SHOULD be able to marry..
NOT the married people, who are WAY in the majority, have to make the case for them not to...
John Thune is a much more dynamic speaker than Sam Brownback.
McPain is up ... blah blah blah .. sounds like he's for the amdmendment .. though I'm waiting for the BUT
And there it is ... he's against the amendment
Like all the other opponents he says this should be handled by the states, but ignores the problem we have with the activist judges who then simply declare the will of the people unconstitutional. I really, really don't like McCain...and what is that blotch of his forehead.
I swear that those fence poles that McCain, Kerry, and Clinton sit on, MUST be more comfortable than they should be...because they just STAY there...
Why would we ever again want a POTUS that can't make up his/her mind?? That is just TOO scary anymore.
