Senate Coverage -- (June '06)
thomas.loc.gov ^ | 6-05-06 | US Congress

Posted on 06/05/2006 7:30:29 AM PDT by OXENinFLA

Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).

So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.

If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.

Here's a few helpful links.

C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.

C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.

C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.

C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.

OR FEDNET has online feed also.

A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).

THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]

Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority

And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.

Their hypocrisy, just to bash Bush, or score political points, is disgraceful

That why our side needs to shove their words down their throats

Very funny stuff going on. Levin and Dorgan trying to get a vote to create a special committee to essentially investigate and hammer on Haliburton. He's tried this twice before and it's been voted down both times. Warner point out that they have an existing committee charged with this investigation. Levin, of course, just wants to grandstand in front of the cameras.

Debate on Iraq set for Tuesday. Warner is trying to figure out just how much mischief they will be up to with regard to the Iraq debate. They are planning a series of amendments.

Now Durbin is up and will doubtless say something disgusting.

It's Durbin's Friday attack on the Administration. They wanted to torture people and they probably did. He thinks the Gitmo prisoners must be moved (where?) and charged. If we return them, we must be sure that they won't be tortured when they get back. He wants us to review detention facilities of other countries to be sure they are being nice.

He's repeating Tony's comment that "2,500 is a number." Says he didn't really mean that. Now we get one of his maudlin "personal recollections." He's practically biting his lip in sorrow and pain for our lost soldiers.

Thank you, Senator Sessions. Durbin said our men were coming back "broken in spirit." Sessions says he hasn't seen any of that. They want to win this war. I love this man. What he does hear is that the military is afraid the Congress is going to mess it up.

Sessions wants them to cut out politics as usual when it comes to our soldiers. Are we sending a message to our enemies that we are willing to fail with these constant attacks to make the President look bad.

Now responding to the charges that we have tortured people. (Does he get a copy of Durbin's remarks in advance, or is he really this good?) What went on at Abu Graeb had nothing to do with interrogation. The perpetrators were prosecuted and imprisoned.

I had to quit when Wyden got up to speak. Sessions was fabulous. He MUST get those stupid Durbin remarks in advance or he is precient. Durbin also referred to our troops as babysitting the Iraqis. He went off on him for that too. (I was feeling very ronery. LOL.)

HI gang....I have missed you all---I know I posted periodically last week...but, I have NO babysitting duties today.

I just read that Sen. Reed, and Sen. Levin are going to introduce a bill for "phased withdrawal of troops in Iraq", today or tomorrow. Also, John F'n Kerry is STILL going to introduce his "withdraw by the end of this year" bill...

NOW, this is all with the knowledge that BOTH bills in the House and Senate was totally a loser for dems.

Oh, good gosh...

Frist comes on, and talks for about 5 minutes, saying they would debate the Defense APP. Bill...until later, when they will debate a judicial nominee for the 9th circuit.

THEN, he calls a quorum call.

After the quorum call...WARNER comes on, and says that he has decided to GIVE Sen. Kennedy 30 minutes to talk about an amendment he PLANS on introducing "later"...hmmmmm

BUT, it is in "morning business"...weird.

They seem a bit in disarray, don't they. Kennedy is going to into an amendment to raise the minimum wage. Do you have any idea how tired I am of "played by the rules," "the American dream", "paid their taxes", "hard working". No one just works, they all work "hard."

I should have realized...

He said that he would try to get this passed with every bill...even if it is not germane...and here he goes again.

I LOVE how he says that "a majority of Americans want the minimum wage passed"...like it is fact.

Perhaps the time has come for a SMALL rise, but NOT what Kennedy wants...and because of the way the dems have been acting, I don't want them to "get" anything they want. (How is that for being mature? LOL)

I'm no more mature than you, then, because I don't want them to get anything either. Did Kennedy just say that the minimum wage is a civil rights issue???? I, frankly, don't think there should even be a minimum wage.

Watching Kennedy reminds me of something I saw on Fox last week sometime...or it could have been the week before, but, when Patrick Kennedy pled guilty, and was given probation...

even though, they couldn't get him on DUI, because they didn't take a test at the scene of the accident, I don't know if you saw this or not...but,

Molly Henneberg of Fox reported that the night that Kennedy had his little "problem", when the police drove him home, he sent them to the wrong house. LOL

He got out of the police car, and walked up to a house, tried to unlock the door, and when he couldn't, he had to go back to the police car, because it was the wrong house.

Oh, yeah----no proof he was under the influence../s

LOL. I did not know that. That's hilarious. He was smashed out of his mind, obviously.

Dingy Harry: he cites Paul Pilar that the Admin. ignored an offer from Iran to stop proliferation. He wants the senate to meddle in what's going on with respect to Iran.
