Senate Coverage -- (June '06)
thomas.loc.gov ^ | 6-05-06 | US Congress

Posted on 06/05/2006 7:30:29 AM PDT by OXENinFLA

Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).

So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.

If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.

Here's a few helpful links.

C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.

C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.

C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.

C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.

OR FEDNET has online feed also.

A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).

THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]

Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority

And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.

I WAS sure that one would pass...

Our Senate is just that screwed up...but, somehow they escaped being stupid on this vote...but, since they were stupid on the first vote...

They are even, which leaves them questionable at this stage.

This internet issue that Wyden is talking about now is going to be one to watch. Hillary! wants to get control and that must not happen.

Dang...I missed his speech...what are they trying to do?

I know a while back there was a story about the UN wanting control of the internet...and THAT scared the "s" out of me...if Hillary wants control....that also scares the "s" out of me.

As well it should. Look for articles on "Net Neutrality". There was a good one this week. I'll see if I can find it for you.

Oh, dear, thanks, Bah.

I am beginning to understand why I was so ignorant of anything political in the 70's, 80's, and even the 90's....

I don't mean to gripe...but, babysitting 2, full-time, leaves me so little time for READING what is on FR..that I am missing a lot.

That is why I appreciate you and Mo1, and others so much--to provide me with links and information.

Right now C-Span 2 has Brig. Gen. William Caldwell being questioned by "reporters." Barbara Starr wanted to know if we had tried to render medical care. Another asks if he was shot. Caldwell confirms that Z was alive when the Iraqi police and the GIs got there. Another one asks if the photo of Z was photoshopped. He also asks how you can know he died as a result of the airstrike without an autopsy. LOL. This is kind of fun. Sorry to be so off topic.

Bill Frist is telling a story of his heroism one day in Florida where he came upon a car accident with many injured people on 2003. He seems completely incapable of getting to the point. This is honestly some of the worst story telling I have ever heard.

I guess what Starr and the rest are trying to "say" is that Zarqawi wasn't killed in blast....he was "murdered in cold blood", by the horrible American military...

If not...then why make such a big deal?

BTW...Daily Kos is a website...why does it's "convention" rate C-span coverage all day???

Would Free Republic get all day coverage if we asked a couple of Congressweinies come speak at one of our events???

The answer is NO>

Another question that was asked was why didn't we go in and capture him alive (mean old "Muricans", killing the poor fellow). Caldwell said that he didn't ask the planners that specific question (why in the world would he, it was so obviously a great idea), but he could imagine that we didn't want to put our guys at significant risk.

Conrad Burns just said he is receiving lots of bricks from Americans who want the border secured.

Main reason they bombed him is not to protect our troops. To try and capture him alive, and interrogate him, could be assessed to be worth the risk..The real reason is they didn't want to take any chance he might escape..You can assume that AlQueda had spotters all aroudn the neighborhood....at the first sight of troops moving in, he'd have been warned, and might have been able to get away..
