Senate Coverage -- (June '06)
thomas.loc.gov ^ | 6-05-06 | US Congress

Posted on 06/05/2006 7:30:29 AM PDT by OXENinFLA

Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).

So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.

If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.

Here's a few helpful links.

C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.

C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.

C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.

C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.

OR FEDNET has online feed also.

A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).

THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]

Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority

And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.

I don't know if this is still the case, but Biden is a heavy user of Amtrack. I think he is afraid he may get blown up.

Biden gets a note calling him off the floor. Says it's urgent. Must be a tv camera in the hall ready to roll.

I turned on BOR's radio show for a minute...and he was playing Leahy's speech from yesterday, calling Bush's Admin, "incompetent"..

BOR said he is being dishonest...and the whole hearing was in its way dishonest...but, guess who his guest will be to talk to Bill about it??

Jonathan TURLEY...can't wait until after the commercial...

BTW...Bill's theory on how we should treat the detainees is a LOT harder than anything we are supposed to have done to warrant that stupid law by Graham and McCain.

He said that if he were President Bush...he would go to Congress and get an official declaration of War against the Islamofascists....interesting.

I'm listening to the House hearing on Hamdan and I am way more impressed with the Reps than I was with the Senators.

Jonathan TURLEY...can't wait until after the commercial

Turley is a conflict of interest because one of his clients was working with the terrorists

He said that if he were President Bush...he would go to Congress and get an official declaration of War against the Islamofascists....interesting.

At the time .. He didn't have the votes from Congress to officially declare war ..

I was going to listen to that...but after watching last night's replay..I couldn't handle more speechifying by ego driven politicos.

BTW..Turley just said that Nagasaki, Hiroshima was legal, and okay to do..

BUT, what we are doing to the prisoners at Gitmo is NOT...because we wouldn't want OUR troops, if taken prisoner to be WATER BOARDED!!!

BOR just about screamed, "Waterboarded?? They are beheading them on VIDEO!"...

Turley said, Yes, but we can't act like that, "we are better than that"...

BOR says, "But, you think that dropping bombs on hundreds of kids and women, in Nagasaki and Hiroshima is BETTER than sleep depriving the terrorists in Gitmo...and Turley said, "YES, because it is causing our reputations to be hurt all over the world"...

GAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Our reputation won't matter much if we are dead

I really hate stupid people

Turley has no credibility. I wish I was his dean. He wouldn't have a job either.

The House hearings on Hamden were megatimes better than those in the Senate. I did get to hear sofaman's representative and I must say he has been too kind in his remarks about her. She was unable to articulate a question and wasn't even able to effectively attack the President, which is what she was trying very hard to do.

Hopefully, they will show it tonight...like they did the Senate hearings last night.

I would much rather watch a replay of that, than Greta...ugh

Can't watch Greta, although it appears that lots of people do. Now here is Senator Byrd wanting more money for chemical plant security. I can't help wondering if chemical plant owners wouldn't provide security for their plants just in the ordinary course of business.

Whenever I hear these Dems complaining about not enough security at (fill in the blank)...my first thought is...well, gee thanks for letting our enemies know that..

My second thought is that if we WERE spending a bunch of $$$$ guarding their (fill in the blank)...they would be complaining that we are spending too much, OR would find something else that isn't secure enough.

Besides, I bet those chem. plants that Byrd is talking about are IN W. Virginia.

I have no doubt. Next thing we know, there'll be a Robert C. Byrd Memorial Chemical Plant.
