"The paper lost nearly 20 percent of its readers in the five boroughs between 2001 and 2004, as it pushed to reinvent itself as a national publication. Its daily circulation in New York City fell to 260,526 copies from 320,682."

Thanks for posting this. It was posted on FR earlier, but I missed this paragraph.

The Slimes circulation in NYC dropped 60,000 or 18.75% in 3 years.

Did they reduce their local ad rates by 18% to the local advertisers?

Where the local advertisers even aware of this lost audience?

I got a call from a tele-marketer the other day looking to sell me a subscription to the Times. When I told him that was not interested, he asked me what I though of the Times. I almost started to actually tell him, but then decided that it wasn't worth ruining this poor guy's day. What a waste of dead trees.

I got a similar call a few months ago while visiting my family back home in Tulsa. I told the caller that I wouldn't even use the Times to wrap fishguts in as it would be totally insulting to the fish. He was really flustered by my response.

Thanks for the ping. This is a great article. I'm glad to see it and looking forward to more by Tom Lipscomb.

I especially like his point that Kerry's Silver Star with V for Valor has never been issued in the history of the United States Navy.

The Democrats don't get "irony". That is beyond their perception to appreciate.

The mental midgets and morally handicapped of America do deserve some representation, and that's exactly what the Democratic party is for!

The state of american journalism, eg. NY Times is truely sad.

What a waste of freedom, the freedom to be Prawda-style propagandists for their pet politician.

Sad indeed.

Just to set the record straight, just so you'll know, the New York Times is no longer to be regarded as the "paper of record". In view of events since the 30's, that distinction now clearly rests with Weekly World News.

And I, for one, feel lots better about it!

Why not get the entire collection?
