Bush is the Next Reagan

Jun 4, 2006

Slater Bakhtavar - Persian Journal

The same people who heavily criticized former President Reagan for his tough stance against Communism and for his aggressive push for democracy in Eastern Europe are now attacking President Bush for his tough stance against fundamentalism and his aggressive push for democracy in the Middle East.

-They argued then that Communism would never fall - it did They argue now that Islamic Fundamentalism will never fall - it will

-They argued then that the Soviet Union is too strong - it wasn't

They argue now that the insurgency is too strong - it isn't

-They argued that Reagans vision of democracy in East Europe would never work - it did

They argue now that Bushs vision of democracy for the mid-east would never work - it will

They argued then that Reagans evil empire speech was a failure - it wasn't

They argue now that Bushs axis of evil speech is a failure - it won't be

-They argued then that former soviet bloc countries wouldn't embrace democracy - they did

They argue now that middle east countries would never embrace democracy - they will

-They argued then that Eastern Europeans nations would never be our allies - they are

They argue now that middle eastern countries will never be our allies - they will be

-They argued then that people without God could never embrace democracy - they did

They argue now that Muslims will never embrace democracy - they will

-They argued then that President Reagan was unrealistic - he wasn't

They argue now that President Bush is unrealistic - he'll prove he isn't

-They argued then democracy isn't universal to former Communists - it was

They argue now democracy isn't universal to Middle Easterners - it will be

-They argued then that funding of pro-democracy groups in Eastern European countries won't work - it did

They argue now that funding of pro-democracy groups won't work in the Middle East - it will

The same exact critcism was directed at Reagan. The future will be the judge of President Bush and my guess is that he will be judged as the Great Liberator of the Middle East.

It's way past time for you to at last take a reading comprehension class. Obviously, your abject lack of said skill, is the cause for your convoluted replies.

Does your chest swell with pride when you read Bush's words praise the change of America to another Latin country?

Swells comprehensively.

I wonder how much of Mexico has to live in the United States before even the 'bots acknowledge the merger underway?

Perhaps those who miss President Bush's greatness are those who cannot see his vision, and depend too much on 'personality' to assess the quality of a leader.

Perhaps it is you who are in the wrong league.....

You need lectures about more than conservative values, son.

You need classes in history, civics and government.

You're missing on all cylinders here.....

I do not think people in any of the countries want more integration of the societies.

Clearly our leaders are acting without our consent then.

Pray for the country that President Bush will secure our borders, build a wall, cut spending and start punishing law breakers like Sandy Burglar. The get along new tone hasn't worked.

Pray for what? Do you really think God is worried about borders?

I appreciate your concern, and I applaud you for raising a fine son who is serving our country in Iraq. I support the war on terror and hope God watches over your son.

However, I disagree with the administrations policy on border security, on out of control spending and a lack of will to punish law breakers who stuff top secret documents down their pants and socks i.e. Sandy Burglar.

You asked me not to post to you and I have kept that request. It would seem that common courtesy would compel a decent person not to post to someone they requested not post to them.

I think concern that I have seen is exaggerated

Exaggerated in what way?

BTTT!

Great comparisons!

Communism wasn't embraced by all, or even most, that lived under it.

Russia was a super power, the ME is not.

Islam is widespread as a closely held personal belief by those living in, under, and among it. Communism is not.

Islam as permeated the world to one extent or another. Communism never has.

Islam works in secret for the most part, whereas Communism was entirely open for the world to understand. (Actually, so is Islam, but people just won't see it.)

Russians still aren't as free as others in truly free societies. Russia still has a "heavy hand" over its people.

The biggest benefactors of the fall of the Iron Curtain were the Eastern Eurpean nations who hated Communism anyway and the western world that is now more free from it's threat(s). That's simply not the case with muslims, otherwise we'd be converting them away from Islam at record rates.

The problem is Islam, which is perceived as a religion, not simple fascism or communism.

Your garbage belongs on Liberty Post, not here. What's your screenname there?

PS Bush, with his views on the illegal invasion of immigrants is much closer to Carter than he is to Reagan presently. His expansion of the Federal Government isn't too Reagan-like either. He bent over backwards for Kennedy on education, and has capitulated on numerous other issues not leaning conservative.

His strategy in Iraq/Afghanistan, while I agree with being there, just not on the strategy, is entirely predicated on the notion that he can separate muslims from their ideological underpinnings, because if he can't, then he's simply spinning his/our wheels over there. I don't think he can. Islam is the problem, not a subset of it and one that is based on the true teachings of the Koran.

It is a stretch to go from a security agreement (think SDI) to full integration.

This is something sorely needed on this thread.

President Bush's accomplishments:

Lest we forget......... This President will be remembered for the things he has accomplished and people conveniently decided to forget.
