Bush is the Next Reagan
Jun 4, 2006
Slater Bakhtavar - Persian Journal
The same people who heavily criticized former President Reagan for his tough stance against Communism and for his aggressive push for democracy in Eastern Europe are now attacking President Bush for his tough stance against fundamentalism and his aggressive push for democracy in the Middle East.
-They argued then that Communism would never fall - it did They argue now that Islamic Fundamentalism will never fall - it will
-They argued then that the Soviet Union is too strong - it wasn't
They argue now that the insurgency is too strong - it isn't
-They argued that Reagans vision of democracy in East Europe would never work - it did
They argue now that Bushs vision of democracy for the mid-east would never work - it will
They argued then that Reagans evil empire speech was a failure - it wasn't
They argue now that Bushs axis of evil speech is a failure - it won't be
-They argued then that former soviet bloc countries wouldn't embrace democracy - they did
They argue now that middle east countries would never embrace democracy - they will
-They argued then that Eastern Europeans nations would never be our allies - they are
They argue now that middle eastern countries will never be our allies - they will be
-They argued then that people without God could never embrace democracy - they did
They argue now that Muslims will never embrace democracy - they will
-They argued then that President Reagan was unrealistic - he wasn't
They argue now that President Bush is unrealistic - he'll prove he isn't
-They argued then democracy isn't universal to former Communists - it was
They argue now democracy isn't universal to Middle Easterners - it will be
-They argued then that funding of pro-democracy groups in Eastern European countries won't work - it did
They argue now that funding of pro-democracy groups won't work in the Middle East - it will
The same exact critcism was directed at Reagan. The future will be the judge of President Bush and my guess is that he will be judged as the Great Liberator of the Middle East.
He won a cease fire.
Russia is still siding with our enemies, and hoping to resurrect its empire. If this new pact with Russia, China and Iran gets going, we may find ourselves in WWIII with Russia aligned on the other side with the other communist states in the world and the islamofascist tiger as their temporary pet.
you aren't and never have been a fan of President Bush have you? you have my sincere condolenses, you have rose color glasses on and will trip soon.
I don't wonder at all. It's because you despise conservatism. Everyone here knows that.
Because you refuse, absolutely refuse, to give Bush any credit, for anything. He can't do anything right.
I've given him credit when he deserves it. Everyone here also knows that.
Only the manic-depressive, reparations-favoring, daughter-despising Alan Keyes can right the wrongs in this country.
Your version of the politics of personal destruction is, I'm sure, admired by the firm of Carville-Begala.
Your credibility on matters political continues to decline based on posts like your last one.
I have plenty of credibility with the people whose opinions I care about. You're not one of them.
Yes, these are hopeful, but that is always the case when the story hasn't "ended."
I agree with the author that, in essence, light will prevail over darkness. The U.S. must win, and so it it will.
We are going to get an early test in Utah on how sucessful or unsuccessful Bush's policies are with Chris Cannon, the moderate republician with the same views as Bush on immigration running for political life. Will the citizens support Cannon's open border policy or reject it.
Stay Tuned.
So what do you propose we do EV?
Wrong again.
like i said, you seem to think you are the only person who knows how to run this country, you run for president..you should be voted in with a land slide since you think everyone should agree with you.
"He honestly has tried with all him might and keeps fighting for it. If the next President loses faith, I won't fault Dubya."
If Washington tried his best but was defeated by the British, he would not have been blamed either. He also wouldn't have been great.
If Lincoln appeased the south, his place in history would not have been cemented.
If Reagan negotiated and compromised with the Soviet Union, he would be just like Jimmy Carter.
GWB will not made an enduring mark, especially if Iraq and Afghanistan return to the muslim pathology that is their likely destiny. His vision is one of Big Government. He still has time, but he will likely not be among the greatest of presidents by a longshot.
And it makes me wonder what is fundamentally missing in your soul that you get pleasure out of mocking men and women so vastly superior to yourself.
You were one of the first people on this forum five years ago, to educate me to the fact that not all conservatives were people of character, and nothing you have posted has changed that opinion since.
I imagine that you are honored by that distinction.
Those are usually backwater politicians whose campaigns you're running. You'll collect your check, but they never win.
Alan Keyes is the best spokesman for constitutional conservatism in the country. Why would I not be loyal to him?
When he's wrong, I say so. Same with George W. Bush.
For all his talk, Reagan never made government smaller, he raised taxes, several times after he lowered the tax brackets, he turned tail and ran from Lebanon, he gave us O'Connor so that he could be known as the first president to put a woman on the SCOTUS ( all hail affirmative action! ), and so on and so on and so on........
Facts matter; really they do!
Cannon has a 96 rating from the American Conservative Union.
He is NOT a moderate republican.
"Despite what all the naysayers, on both the right and left, claim, President Bush will be well regarded by history.
I know this for a fact as I will be one of those writing it."
AWESOME! We have several here at FR planning to write such histories -- count me (and you) among them.

BUSH Freedom's promise was made in writing in a signed letter that was read aloud to 1,000's of Freedom-loving Vietnamese Americans in April 2003.
These Freedom-loving Little Saigon, California Vietnamese-Americans were demonstrating to thank President BUSH for his bringing Freedom to Iraq. This as my old Vietnam War U.S. 7th Cavalry Regiment was spearheading Freedom's arrival in Iraq.
This particular Vietnam War Veteran had to follow this stunning BUSH Letter reading by then California State Vice-Chairman MARIO RODRIQUEZ and ...I did so with tears of joy in my eyes.
