So now the quantity is up to "3 Tonnes". This morning it was 3000 lbs, now they say it is 6000 lbs. They still don't explain how these people came into possession of that much AN. I keep hearing that they "ordered it" and that the RCMP conducted the raid after the AN was "delivered".
Still too many missing and/or contradictory pieces here...

Canada works on the metric system, hence "tonne", and not "ton". One tonne is 1000 kilograms (methinks around 2200 pounds[?]).

Every canadian article on the arrests mention three tonnes of fertilizer

Ammonium nitrate is 34-0-0 (NPK ratio). Suppose we accept a 300#/acre nitrogen application for row crops, 6000# of ammonium nitrate is required for 6 acres.
So......where's their produce stand?

It's a metric tonne, not the "ton" we use in the U.S. 3 metric tonnes is about 6,614 U.S. pounds.

Every report I've read indicated it was 3 tons. They ordered it and the police had been monitoring them. The police intercepted the shipment and replaced the AN with some other "powder". Once the purchase was complete the police arrested them.
IMO, it appears to have been handled well from both the Canucks and Americans law enforcement agencies.
Now the politicians will get involved and screw it all up.
