The Secret Service apprehended a man who was trying to jump the fence on the south side of the White House Sunday.

Secret Service spokesman Tom Mazur identified the man as Roger Witmer, 44, of Washington, who faces charges of unlawful entry and disorderly conduct.

Mazur said members of the uniformed division captured Witmer before he got over the fence. But he threw over a package, and officials shut down traffic on the south side of the White House so it could be examined.

Since they had got him before he cleared the fence, maybe they ought to have impaled him on it and left him there, as an object lesson. In the old times the heads and other parts of divers bad guys were routinely exhibited on pikes, gates, walls, bridges, etc.

No, the article would've been more interesting if he'd managed to blow himself up with his own homemade bomb.

That would clinch it for the liberals... As a movement, they'd be dead if they actually tried to get at the President through violence. And God forbid they should succeed, they'd be deader than dead... They'd be pushing up shoots somewhere remote.

But, I think they should give amnesty to anyone who actually gets over the fence. After all, they surely just want a better life. Maybe they're just there to clean the White House toilets and make the beds and cut the grass....
