Two words: Pamela Anderson. Ive met Pam without makeup, not a pretty sight.
That being said she seemed very nice and with a lot of "industry" smarts.

And when you are overly made up, you send out the message that you are overly sexual, that you want to be visible to attract men.
It is causing me great pain that I find myself in agreement with anything even remotely french, but I've got to agree with them here. Not so much about the makeup, but the clothing, the trollop-chic, cheap-streetwalker look that is so popular, particularly with girls way too young to be so sexualized.

Good for you. I looked at these posts and I left but now I'm back. I cannot get your photograph out of my mind. It sure does quash any complaints the French have about us. I hope that every time you see somebody thinks it is so smart to post the picture comparing the slim who-knows-what person with the obese American eating McDonalds you jump in with your photo. It is the perfect reality check of the quality of a people.

Know what French women do in the summer?
They stink.

I dunno, she appears to have a touch of jaundice. (Nice smile, though.)

It was a fun project. The Seagrams European folks were very nice with the exception of the French participants. Even the other Europeans hated the French folks.

You have proven that, when it really matters, French women use the same standards as American to express their beauty; which is contrary to the article.
No one, in the replies above, seriously declared French women to be innately ugly; just that those French women cited in the article work at making themselves unappealing or appealing to those men and women who like the looks of adolescent boys.
Many Freepers have traveled a lot. We know there are pretty young women everywhere. In some cultures, especially the French culture cited in the article, the young women need bath, shower, shave and delousing before their beauty can show.

The French say Nicole Richie and Britney Spears have adopted the "overdone" look, while Madonna is forgiven since she is seen as a hard-nosed businesswoman and free spirit.
Jennifer Lopez escapes criticism because she is Hispanic and therefore culturally more exotic.
I'm sorry, but NOBODY I know here holds these celebs as beautiful. Or representative.
Now, those Simpson chicks....

The purpose of it all the makeup anyway is the human version of the highly-colored posterior of a lower primate in estrus.
