"Seven non-royals have so far been accorded state funerals: Nelson, Pitt, Wellington, Palmerson, Gladstone, Roberts and Churchill."

Is it possible for a woman to crash that exclusive male circle? I'm waiting for the British feminazis to start the clamor.

Oh, wait, Lady Thatcher is a conservative.

(.....sound of hat pins dropping on a shag rug)

Scotland on Sunday can reveal that civil servants have been working for months on the details of Baroness Thatcher's funeral, even though there is no suggestion the 80-year-old is suffering from any life-threatening condition.

Ghouls. I hope Our Maggie outlives you all, you bastards.

Such funerals are not slapped together at the last minute while the body is cooling. They are planned years in advance.

How Reagan guided script for his funeral and burial .........Nothing has been left to chance in the 300-page funeral plan for Ronald Reagan. .............. the details were adapted to meet the Reagans' personal wishes and have been reviewed yearly by Nancy Reagan.

The details of presidential funerals here are planned far in advance of actual death so that they can incorporate the wishes of the president and/or his family. I see nothing particularly goulish in planning in advance. But do you believe that Baroness Thatcher should be accorded the state funeral?

Well, no. It's actually a well-known fact in Great Britain that Blair has a great deal, dare I say enormous deal, of admiration for Thatcher.

The good Lord bless President Reagan.
Time will just make him greater and greater as well as Lady Thatcher.

At Reagan's funeral there was a dirge that just chilled me in its haunting beauty. It is also the theme in the movie "We Were Soldiers"

Asking all here - Does anyone know of a good recording of this hymn ( or its name ) other than the movie soundtrack?

Thanks for the help if you know.

To fallen soldiers let us sing,
Where no rockets fly nor bullets wing,
Our broken brothers let us bring
To the Mansions of the Lord

No more weeping,
No more fight,
No friends bleeding through the night,
Just Devine embrace,
Eternal light,
In the Mansions of the Lord

Where no mothers cry
And no children weep,
We shall stand and guard
Though the angels sleep,
Oh, through the ages let us keep
The Mansions of the Lord

May Mr Blair's foresight not be needed for many, many years.

Amen, bro.

She can be buried here - we would honor her as we did RWR.

"...a state funeral for one of the Labour Party's most reviled enemies of recent decades: Margaret Thatcher."

I see that in the UK as in the USA, the loony left is defined by what they hate rather than what they are for ... oh, that's right, they never dare tell what they are for.

WOW!

What a perceptive idea. I do hope you are right.

Reagan and Thatcher - what a pair of heroes.

"They could be seen as people who saved the country in times of dire need... It is hard to think of the Falklands as being in that category.

How about winning the Cold War, you stupid ninny?

Thank you.

That was as moving today as on the day of President Reagan's funeral.

She deserves all the honors a nation can bestow. FWIW, Reagan's funeral had been planned years in advance, albeit he was not in good health
