welve men have been arrested in Toronto on terror charges, Canadian police have confirmed. They are also holding five youths.

Police said the men were planning to commit a series of "al-Qaeda-inspired" terrorist attacks in southern Ontario.

They had obtained materials used in bomb-making, including three tonnes of ammonium nitrate.

Officials said the group "posed a real and serious threat. It had the capacity and intent to carry out these attacks."

Ammonium nitrate is a commonly-used fertiliser. "To put it in context, the 1995 bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City that killed 168 people was completed with only one ton of ammonium nitrate," said Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) assistant commissioner Mike McDonnell.

"Our investigation and arrests prevented the assembly of any bombs and the attacks from being carried out," he added.

Southern Ontario is one of the country's main economic and business centres.

I thought Alqaida was nonexistent in Canada. I mean Pacifist countries are safe from the Jaws of terrorism.. right? and I quote 'The suspects appeared to have "chosen a violent ideology inspired by al-Qaeda"'

A metric ton is 1,000 kg, or about 2,250 pounds. An English ton is 2,000 pounds.

A metric ton is one thousand Kg. or 2200 pounds as compared to a US ton of 2000 pounds. An English or long ton is 2240 pounds or slightly larger than a metric ton (tonne)

At least the Mexicans coming across the US border are wearing crosses and not turbans!

When they vote they vote for ACLU leaders like Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa. Is that Christian enough for you?

Police said those arrested on Friday were all Canadian residents "of different origins", most of them citizens - some were students, some employed, others unemployed.

The reporter still refuses to admit that most if not all were rag-heads with Al this or Al that in their names.

Lets see a list of the names, Canadian citizens be damned they are our enemy.
