"Bush used his appearance before the Chamber, as he did with an address to the National Restaurant Association in Chicago on May 22, to try to keep up momentum for his immigration goals.
Both groups support the White House proposal for a guest worker program, which would maintain a legal flow of low-cost labor.
The president said he doesn't want to pass the burden of verifying documents to businesses."
How can a total surrender to the lawless invaders be called a compromise?
Mr, President even the democrat Senators in close races voted against this monstrosity.
The House better not cave on this issue or they are toast!
Low-cost labor bump
The irony of this statement by Bush is beyond words.
""The president said he doesn't want to pass the burden of verifying documents to businesses.""
What crap! I can check any of my employees back to the fetus in 30 minutes!!
Bush's Guest worker registration/
certification is one thing.
Allowing entry for their families
and extended families, Social
Security benefits, health/medicare,
plus "earned" citizenship are quite
another story...and a half.
Illegal is illegal.
....WE are the toast ...say by by USA if the Senate version passes.
Because it compromises our security, sovereignty, integrity, constitution, budget...
And we are tacos.
We re going to enforce our laws, that's what the people expect",
How about you enforce them NOW Mr President?
"The president said he doesn't want to pass the burden of verifying documents to businesses.""
I'm waiting for Bush to tell us he's our first "Hispanic President".
Amazing how tone deaf he is on this issue.
"In order for this country to be an economic leader, Bush said today in remarks to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, the country needs an immigration system that "is secure, orderly and fair". (No mention of legal)
This is the biggest failure of this Presidency. And those Senators who are supporting his amnesty bill will see their political careers die with it, most notably John McCain and Lindsey Graham. I am very proud that both Georgia Senators voted NO.
First, we must gain absolute control of the border. Otherwise, we'll be discussing this again every 5 years.
That is so obvious.
Step #1 - Totally Close the Border Legislation.
Step #2 - Discuss the nuances of those inside the country illegally.
I have made 50+ phone calls to Senators and Representatives offices in the past month or so.
All have offices in DC.
Most have offices scattered around in their home states or districts.
I call the good guys to praise them, and I call the bad guys to chew them out.
Just yesterday I called the offices of James Sensenbrenner, Jeff Sessions, Richard Shelby, and Bud Cramer to thank them for their votes and express an interest in the conference committee (yes - Bud Cramer. I'm lucky to have a Democrat representative who voted for the House bill).
I have called the offices of McCain, Lugar, Hagel, and other traitors to let them know EXACTLY what I think of them. I also let them know that they FINISHED as politicians if the Senate bill ever gets signed into law.
CALL! CALL! CALL!
Take a few minutes withthe staffer who answers the phone. Let them know you are concerned and engaged, and if they are of the tratorous type, threaten them. Let them know this is an issue that will not be forgotten when they next come up for election - and it doesn't matter if it is 2 years from now or 4 years from now.
THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR NOT CALLING. I have enough free minutes on my cell phone to make lots of calls, and these are minutes that I would probably lose anyway.
If you are concerned about the cost of the call, install Skype on your machine and use their service (unlimited use is free until the end of the year).
This is probably the most important issue in our lifetimes, and it has the potential to DESTROY OUR COUNTRY.
YOU HAVE AN OBLIGATION TO STOP THIS TRAVESTY.
That's boondoggle, not boon.
