Great work by the Mounties! At least initially, it looks as if great detective work caused Canada to dodge a major bullet.

Now, interrogate the @#^! out of them and round up some more.

Toronto is one of my favorite cities in the world. Sadly, after spending a lot of time there over the past several years (I'm from Upstate NY), this does not surprise me in the least. I'm sure there are a lot of terrorist training camps up there, not to mention a huge support network in Ontario.

Good luck up there!

But sources also tell the Sun that the RCMP "planted" that
story with the media, though reasons remain unclear.

Looks like CAIR has an active chapter in Canada.

Good luck with the fight.
And let the sniping about Canada roll off your back.
Given the pathetic media coverage (in the USA) of Canada's recent
drift to rational governance...a lot of the 'Muricans still think
the ghost of Trudeau has hold of your ship of state.

Loss of Canadian (or other) troops in Afghanistan get little
or no coverage here.

This from The Captain`s Quarters:

"... Stephen Taylor is live-blogging the press conference now. They confiscated three tons of ammonium nitrate -- the same fertilizer ingredient that Timothy McVeigh used in the Oklahoma City bombing, only three times as much. Of the seventeen, 12 have been publicly identified, while five are apparently underage. The identified suspects are:

1. Fahim Ahmad, 21, of Robinstone Drive, Toronto, Ontario;
2. Zakaria Amara, 20, of Periwinkle Crescent, Mississauga, Ontario;
3. Asad Ansari, 21, of Rosehurst Drive, Mississauga, Ontario;
4. Shareef Abdelhaleen, 30, of Lowville Heights, Mississauga, Ontario;
5. Qayyum Abdul Jamal, 43, of Montevideo Road, Mississauga, Ontario;
6. Mohammed Dirie, 22, Kingston, Ontario;
7. Yasim Abdi Mohamed, 24, Kingston, Ontario;
8. Jahmaal James, 23, of Trudelle Street, Toronto, Ontario;
9. Amin Mohamed Durrani, 19, of Stonehill Court, Toronto, Ontario;
10. Steven Vikash Chand alias Abdul Shakur, 25, of Treverton Drive, Toronto, Ontario;
11. Ahmad Mustafa Ghany, 21, of Robin Drive, Mississauga, Ontario;
12. Saad Khalid, 19, of Eclipse Avenue, Mississauga, Ontario.... "

Police have recovered three tonnes of ammonium nitrate fertilizer in the raids. Commissioner McDonell noted that this amount was three times the amount used by Timothy McVeigh to destroy the federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995.

Ammonium nitrate/fuel oil mixtures have occasionally been used for improvised bombs, most infamously in the Oklahoma City bombing by Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols on April 19, 1995.

Scores of officers, many heavily armed, took the suspects into custody at a police station in Pickering, Ont., following the raids.

MORE TO COME

Major terror bust in Toronto...

Fences and walls on our southern border are nice.

However, terrorists are much more likely to come through our northern border.

Islamic community shocked by intrusion

Members of a northeast Islamic centre were left frightened and shaken after three people entered the building during prayer time and started shouting expletives on Friday night.

It was the second incident in one week at the Al-Madinah Islamic Centre on Falsbridge Drive N.E.

“It was really horrifying,” said Shahzada Khan, who was one of the seven people praying inside when they heard someone kicking the rear exit door.

Khan said they ignored the sounds, not wanting to break their prayer.

Then, the nine people outside moved to the front of the building and began pounding on the glass windows. Three of them, two men and one woman, entered the centre and started shouting.

“They were using vulgar words, the f-word. I thought they were going to throw something,” Khan said, adding he couldn’t see the group because they were facing the northeast wall.

“I can’t believe it. I can’t accept it, still.”

The intrusion scared the group inside, particularly an 11-year-old boy.

Members of the group called 911 and recorded license plate numbers and vehicle descriptions while police arrived on scene.

On May 26th at 11 p.m., someone drove a vehicle into the exterior wall of the building with such force, it separated the staircase inside from the wall, said Malik Ashraf, president of the centre.

Ashraf believes it may be the same group responsible for both incidents.

The timing is also disturbing to Ashraf.

The group descended on the centre the same evening as police arrested suspects in the Toronto-area for allegedly plotting a terrorist attack.

“That is making me worry. There may be frustration and hate against Muslims and Islam,” said Ashraf, adding he wants Calgarians to know that members of the centre condemn the actions of terrorists.

“Anyone who is doing that, we want them to punished. I want to see them behind bars.”

Why am I not surprised they found them in the GTA?

Then again, I am sure there are thousands if not hundreds of thousands of neighborhoods who would be surprised if they knew who lived around them and what business they conducted.
