TAVARES, Fla. A couple tried to hire a hit man to kill their three grandchildren and daughter-in-law to stop them from testifying against their son in his rape trial, authorities said.
The couple, ages 60 and 59, were charged with four counts each of criminal conspiracy to commit murder. They were being held without bond.
Police said they initially offered $100 to an undercover sheriff's deputy to kill their son's wife, their 10-year-old granddaughter, two step-grandchildren, ages 14 and 16, and the family dog. More money was promised after the killings, said Lake County sheriff's Sgt. Christie Mysinger.
The couple's 31-year-old son has been jailed since November on 22 charges of sexual battery on a child, lewd and lascivious molestation and showing obscene material to a minor, court records show.
Detectives say his daughter and stepdaughter are the victims. The Associated Press has withheld the names of the grandparents and the family members to protect the children's identities.
The man tried to solicit a fellow jail inmate to kill his family, the arrest report said. An informant told detectives about the plot and they arranged to meet the man's parents Tuesday at a Best Western motel in Tavares, a lakefront community about 30 miles northwest of Orlando, police said.

Now I've heard everything......
What a lovely family.
The reporter didn't want to divulge their names?
Oh NO YOU HAVEN'T! ( Sadly)
They should be tried and if found guilty they and the rapist son should find themnselves on the end of a short, stiff rope, hanging from a tall tree...or something similar.
Eye protection mandatory.
And they're doing it to save their child molestor son.
They could raise millions if they had a lottery, and the winner gets to shoot these two - after trial and conviction, of course. People would be lined up around the block to get a shot at them.
Big spenders, eh?....that's only $20 a hit.

I can see and even kind of expect my mother to do something like that (I was a "problem" child) but my grandparents? No way.
I'm sure you could find them if you were interested. I agree with the sheriff's decision though, no reason to put the kids through more misery.

Thanks for the info, and you were right about the eye protection. I wonder what trailer park they hail from? LOL!!
This reporter named them.....

"no reason to put the kids through more misery"
Like everyone in town doesn't already know?
Don't be so hard on them. They said they'd pay more after the job was done.
ugh
I bet they voted for Kerry . . .
. . . a few times.
There is a sexual abuse case of the grandkids involved. Divulging the grandparents' names would take away the anonymity of the children.
