LAS VEGAS (Hollywood Reporter) - Katie Couric hopes to bring a "humanistic, more accessible" approach to her job when she takes over as anchor and managing editor at "CBS Evening News" in September, she said Thursday.
Addressing the annual convention of CBS affiliates, Couric predicted that the "pretentious era" of the evening-news anchor is going to be a thing of the past.
"The audience is more sophisticated than we give them credit for -- they don't want a mechanical Ted Baxter," said Couric, whose last day as co-anchor of NBC's "Today" was Wednesday. "I'm a serious, caring, compassionate person. I hope that comes out. ... People want a multidimensional (news anchor) and not someone they can put in a box."

Never forget that before Ms. Couric got the gig on the "Today" Show 15 years ago, she was a beltway reporter for WRC-TV in Washington, DC. Just a beltway reporter.
She is way out now in the deep end of the pool.
The new CBS News anchor? This will never work. Count on it.
Can't wait for the 'humanistic' heart-rendering stories of victims of affirmative action, software engineers losing their jobs to H1B imports, of Americans dying in emergency rooms while illegal aliens get priority treatment.
Hey, why not. Katie lacks any sense of intelligence or erudition necessary for pretension anyway.
No kidding! Where's the "another liberal entirely missing the boat alert?"
Couric predicted that the "pretentious era" of the evening-news anchor is going to be a thing of the past.
What, is the CBS Evening Ruse going to daytime or something!
Katie Couric hopes to bring a "humanistic, more accessible" approach to her job when she takes over as anchor and managing editor at "CBS Evening News" in September, she said Thursday.
How about the TRUTH there Katie? Or is that a foreign concept to you? I'll help ya out, you know, facts, hard data instead of what you wish to be, actual documents instead of fabricated or contrived ones, the real contexts of interviews with people instead of words taken from them and spun like laundry in a spin cycle to extract items that fit your (and CBS') agenda, to name but a few.
Or are Americans not that "sophisticated" Katie?
You talk a good game, but let's see how your liberal carcass delivers there toots!
She also said the news has become somewhat inaccessible, seemingly being programmed for inside-the-Beltway policymakers and other reporters rather than for at-home viewers.
Huh? You jest, surely. The Ruse has catered to the least common denominator of the American fabric for decades. I.e., those too lazy to turn a page of a political publication on their own, now click a mouse or learn how to use the web, those who are the most naive and fickle. Those of the lowest intellects. If truth were information were a tangible product, you and the Ruse over the years would be the equivalent of door-to-door snakeoil salesmen.
"We need to be more level with viewers and explain the issues in a plain-spoken way," she said.
It doesn't get anymore "plain spoken" than what the Ruse has offered, along with the other two networks! Again, it's not the delivery, it's the content. But Rush has been telling you that since he's been in business for nearly two decades and it's been lost on you, so we won't anticipate much of a difference, just the same bowl of gruel served with a nicer looking "cover." And "cover" is what it's all about, right Katie!
Yep. And my initial thought from the headline was that she had decided to retire instead of taking the See-BS job.....
I'm sure it will be humanistic all right -- secular humanistic, Marxist-socialist humanistic, and Shirley MacLaine cosmic humanistic.
No one who believes in Jesus Christ better show their face because they will surely be humanistic-ally vilified.
I predict that CBS will win the third place award handily with perky Katie at the helm.Hiring her pretty well sealed the deal between CBS and conservatives. They're bias and we know it. I don't even have to tune in now!
Come now ... no one more sincere than Ted Baxter in tears, "Oh Lou, Lou, Lou, Lou, Lou ..."
ha ha ha
Katie doing the CBS news!
This is like throwing an "anchor" to a drowning man.
"Oh the humanity!"
Oh really Katie? So when are you retiring?
Hmmm ... perhaps I was a mite too hasty with that last one ...
News for women who feel like they need to vote Democratic.
She's retiring?
