HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., May 31 — Republicans set the stage Wednesday for what could be a bitter primary battle in the bid to challenge Hillary Rodham Clinton for the United States Senate, with delegates at the state party's convention giving two candidates enough support to qualify them for the Sept. 12 primary ballot.
John Spencer, the former mayor of Yonkers, who has trumpeted his conservative credentials, secured more than 63 percent of the votes from delegates, making him the official designee of the state party.
But Kathleen Troia McFarland, a former Reagan aide who is viewed as more moderate, surprised many people here by winning more the 36 percent of the vote— far more than the 25 percent necessary to make the Sept. 12 primary ballot.
The voting capped a last-minute push by several top Republicans to persuade party members to unite behind Mr. Spencer and avoid what is likely to be a costly primary that could bruise the victor.

No one is going to beat Hillary in New York. If there was even the slightest chance, she wouldn't run.

I can't believe the party establishment, even at the last minute, tryed to give the nomination for Spencer without having a primary fight, being he is pretty solidly conservative and the NYGOP hates Conservatives.
If you look at the numbers fro hitlery closely, they are not that good -. The media chants "Hitlery is the front runner!" but that just means her possible contenders are even lower than she is - and the percentage of people polled who said they would vote for her are LOW.
If the pubs could get it together and run a viable candidate, a NATIVE of N.Y. - and lean on the obvious fact that she will desert her post as senator in 2 years to run for pres - that should hurt her...along with reminding people she's not a native but moved there to take advantage of the state for her own ambitions. (Were she honest, she would have run from her own state. "What is your home state, Hitlery? Illinois? Arkansas? It ain't New York!" )
If someone beat her in this election, it would not only make my day but my life!
This was a big win for the scumbags in the fasso camp. They leaned on county chairman through "our good friends" in the conservative party and got this bag of crap mcfarland a primary. Why?
This way people will come out on primary day and vote for fasso when then vote for John Spencer. It will work for fasso but it just hurt the whole country. They hate Weld so much that this all looks good to them.
John Spencer beating the beast? Of course not. But he would have been able to damage her. The conservative party and fasso don't care about that.
The only race now will be to see who does better fasso or Spencer against their opponents.
mcfarland is so much of a zero that she is the living equivilent of the senate immigration bill: both are so empty that common sense tells you they only exist for some hidden reason. No one could seriously support the senate bill and no one could seriously support mcfarland.
Spencer will give her a run for her money though.
