Military Inquiry Contradicts Marines Account Of Haditha Deaths

In accounts given to Watt by some Marines, they claimed to have taken gunfire from the first of five homes they entered near the bomb site. Watt also reviewed payments of $38,000 in cash made within weeks of the incident to the families of 15 victims. The officer who made those payments told the Times that she was instructed not to make payments to the families of the remaining victims because they were deemed to have committed hostile acts, leaving the families ineligible for compensation.

Does the US have a policy to pay people like this...or was it supposedly just this time, as hush money??

Also, I noticed on the news tonight that a car with two women, one pregnant was shot at by Americans when it didn't obey rules to stop...and I guess the women were killed.

I have a feeling THIS will get a lot of play tomorrow.

Our poor troops...are going to be so afraid to shoot...they are going to get themselves, and their fellow troops killed.

AND, this is exactly why, I have a hard time with this...it is exactly what al-queda would do to perpetuate this "stereotype" all over Iraq, which would make the Iraqi people that WANT to trust us, not trust us.

THEN you have blowhards like Murtha and others screaming, "hearts and minds"..."not military means"...blah, blah.
