President Bush attended the swearing-in ceremony for Gen. Michael Hayden as the new CIA Director. Read the president's remarks here.

He met with Rwandan President Paul Kagame at the White House to discuss AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), peacekeeping contributions in Sudan, and Rwanda's strides toward reconciliation, democracy, and inclusiveness, and the important role of women in advancing these vital objectives.

US sets conditions for talks with Iran.

The first lady was in New Orleans, speaking at Tulane University; and for a tour of an exhibition at The Historic New Orleans Collection.

Welcome to Sanity Island.

QUOTES: "Mike is a patriot, he's a reformer, he's one of our nation's finest intelligence professionals. I know firsthand how good this guy is; I've worked with him on some really important issues related to the security of the United States. He brings more than two decades of experience in the intelligence field. He is going to be a superb leader for the dedicated men and women of the CIA."

"I want to welcome the President of Rwanda to the Oval Office again. ... We talked about the Sudan, and I want to thank the President for committing troops in the AU mission to help deal with what I have called a genocide. We strategized about how we can go forward to resolve the situation. I thank you for your wisdom, I thank you for your concern."

Someone behind the camera and in the "which photos to post on the Internet" department did their best to capture Laura in unflattering poses today. These are some of the better ones.

Laura Bush views a painting titled 'Arrivee de l'escadre De Grasse a Saint - Doningue ' by Gustave Alaux 1943 at the Historic New Orleans Collection with Alfred Lemmon Director of the Williams Residence in New Orleans.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

I did! Here is a photo of President Bush, just before he realized we were the good guys and started waving and smiling! Unfortunately, everyone was to busy waving to get a photo of that! ;*)

Hope you had a great one, too!

In recent times I can't think of a single nation that suffered such murderous barbarism as Rwanda, while the whole world stood by and did nothing.
