Check points should be used more for illegals, in Alabama it is getting to be little Mexico in some places. All the brick masons have been replaced by illegals, so has concrete workers. These people make big bucks and pay hardly any taxes. The police have a nasty habit of tailgating people and I am like anybody else it makes me nervous, therefore you make mistakes. I was being followed by a Alabama state trooper one time for about five miles thru traffic, I halfway stopped in the middle of the road and walked back to him and gave him my license. He was kinda stunned, I ask him why he kept following me, he said he didn't realize he was. Told him if he needed anything just to put the lights on.

Checkpoints are anti-American. Individual rights trump state rights. I have a right to be secure in my person, letters, and possessions unless a warrant is issued against me.

The police can stop you at these check points, however, if you have no outstanding warrants to cause them to do anything further, they have no right to search your vehicle for anything. If they ask, you have a right to say no. Oh, they will threaten to get a warrant, but you should call the bluff and say, okay, where do I park while you try to convince a judge your theory for reasonable cause to search my vehicle.

One man, Carl Mitchell Washington, 22, was driving with his 2-year-old son when police stopped him at a checkpoint and found about 30 pills, which were believed to be Ecstasy, and $2,775 in cash, Hargrove said.
Does your car usually get searched at a checkpoint? (I've never seen one.)

"Papers, please" policies are a cancer on liberty, and their proponents are dangerous enablers of tyranny.

While stuck in line for one of these, I watched the cops "strip search" a car belonging to 2 old ladies. I'm guessing they either had an AK47 on the back seat, OR they innocently agreed to the "random" search the cops requested. The ladies stood beside the car in 90+ degree midday heat, clearly distraught, while the cops EMPTIED their suitcases & belongings on the ground.
After an unsuccessful search, the cops went to the next car, leaving the old ladies to repack their luggage & car in the broiling sun. I wanted to help the ladies, but it's not a good idea to "interfere" in a situation like this. Disgusting!
NEVER agree to a search of your car - you are giving up your rights, & placing yourself in an unnecessarily helpless situation. A bad cop with a small bag in his pocket can ruin your life forever. And there are plenty of bad cops - they're in the paper nearly every day!
Since you think these road blocks are so good, how often would you suggest they use them in your neighborhood? Once a week? How about EVERY day - ALL day? That should catch a few bad guys, but I don't see your neighborhood being one bit safer because of it. Enjoy the lines.

I've been thinking about moving to Mexico briefly, becoming a Mexican citizen, coming here illegally, and starting my own business being impervious to getting arrested and paying taxes! This clinches it.
I suppose I could run for Congress and win accomplishing the same thing, but that would take too long.

Heck, why stop with checkpoints at airports, highways, government buildings, and schools? Let's just have cops do quick pat-downs of everyone, going from neighborhood to neighborhood every morning in front of everyone's home. Then we can make sure this kind of thing won't happen any more.
This thing, of course, being freedom. Pesky stuff. Our government needs to root it out now before it's too late.

In virginia, if you have a CCW permit, they record that info on your driver's information. I have a CCW but I cant actually GO anywhere because 3 out of the 4 roads leading to my house have schools within 1000 feet of the road. If I were to ever be pulled over and have a firearm in the car, I would technically be violating the letter of the law. However, there is a clause in the CCW laws that allows safe passage as long as my guns are not taken out on school property and I dont stop the car or something like that.
Its just a little disturbing that they'll know i have a CCW at the check point after running my plates.
