On Brown vs. Board of Education, Topeka
"If Brown was just about letting Black people into a White school, well we dont care about that anymore. We dont necessarily want to go to White schools. What we want to do is teach ourselves, teach our children the way we have of teaching. We dont want to drink from a White water fountain, we have our own wells and our natural reservoirs and our way of collecting rain in our aqueducts. We dont need a White water fountain. So the whole issue of segregation and the whole issue of the Civil Rights Movement is all within the box of White culture and White supremacy. We should not still be fighting for what they have. We are not interested in what they have because we have so much more and because the world is so much larger. And ultimately the White way, the American way, the neo liberal, capitalist way of life will eventually lead to our own destruction. And so it isnt about an argument of joining neo liberalism, its about us being able, as human beings, to surpass the barrier." - Marcos Aguilar, founder and principal of La Academia del Pueblo

Reporter Assaulted After Interview, Loses Tape
(CBS) LOS ANGELES A local radio reporter was assaulted Thursday while leaving a Los Angeles charter school that his station has said imparts separatist ethics, a station official said.
The reporter, Sandy Wells, was not hurt, according to station spokesman Steve Sheldon.
Wells was leaving the campus of Academia Semillas Del Pueblo, 4736 Huntington Drive, after interviewing the principal when a car came around the corner, jumped the curb and the driver tried to run him down, Sheldon said.
Wells managed to dodge the car, but the driver, a man who appeared to be in his mid-20s, got out and tackled him, taking away his tape recorder, he said.
The incident was reported to police, Sheldon said, adding that it is believed to be linked to the station's reporting on the school.
The Los Angeles Unified School District said it would issue a statement on the assault later in the day.

FOR LATE ARRIVALS to this thread...
follow-up thread on assault on KABC reporter Sandy Wells when he tried to
get "the rest of the story" at the school:

It seems these charter schools are not such a great idea. We had a Muslim one in our area that was diverting funds to gee, who can guess where? This is something that needs to be stopped right now! I am so sick of anti American's being here and taking over!!!
The Aztec "official" name of the school is XINAXCALMECATL.
This where Los Angeles and Caalifornia taxpayer money is going to.
Lou Dobbs reported on this tonight. Dobbs said the principal wouldn't talk to them. He told about the incident with Sandy. He also said that citizens were concerned that this school is being paid for by American taxpayers. The school has also taken down their website.
I think that the people should make their voices heard to the school. It is your tax money that is paying for this nonsence and they have the hubris to assault a reporter. A reporter who was only trying to do his job.
Call them, fax them, and e-mail them:

Here is another fax number associated with the school:

Thanks for the crosslink.
Wells and McIntyre were also just on O'Reilly.
Have you asked any other members of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce or any other Chamber of Commerce who have given money to this "school" to disassociate themselves?
Here is M Aguilar's Press release over the matter over his school and the incident with Sandy Welles. Its sounds more of a scripted talking point to me.
Believe it or Not.

Please read with caution.
Sarcasm noted.
But, seriously, it's usually easier to learn a lower base system after you've learned a higher base system. So, if they master base-20, then it should be relatively easy to learn base-16, which would make them great at understanding some computer stuff, as well as base-10 to get along with the rest of the world.
Base-10 is great for counting on fingers, and 20 should be natural after including toes. An abacus can be designed for any particular base, and many abacus designs predate worldwide acceptance of Arabic numerals. Romans designed their abacus to work with Roman numerals. Oriental abacus designs worked for base 10 and base 16, depending on the design. These children could probably use base 20 abacus designs for arithmetic. Unfortunately, most computer programs for math (or calculators) have decimal user interfaces, sometimes with capabilities for binary or hexadecimal numbers, but I've never noticed vigesimal systems.
If they learn base-20, do they use the sticks/pebbles/shells to represent the numbers, or 0-9,A-J? Arabic numerals only cover 0-9, and hexadecimal adds the letters A-F. I looks like 1, so maybe they skip I and use K?
hey liberals...you bring this on yourself by CONTINUING to SUPPORT RACIST LIBERALS like Dianne Feinstein...VOTE HER OUT. DO IT THIS YEAR. You have a conservative candidate Dick Mountjoy who will help ERADICATE THIS DISEASE known as illegal invaders...Racists like this Marcos Aguilar would be shut down...Keep voting BLUE and live with this problem FOREVER
But, even if they learn base 20, they must also learn what the rest of the world uses (base 10) to pass the standardized tests. With such low student test scores, the school ought to first concentrate on teaching base 10.
One would think that Feinstein presented a great opportunity for Mountjoy to criticize her proposed (and failed) amnesty plan. The illegal alien "May day" single-day boycott or the school walk-outs were other opportunites to highlight her immigration policy preferences. The illegal immigration issue might pull enough decline-to-state voters if he campaigned on it, especially if he combined it with support for tax cuts. But, Mountjoy needs to learn to get on the news or talk shows, because I never saw or heard him on TV or radio.
Thank you for being candid. It is greatly appreciated.
