I had washed my hands of this thread, but I guess if you want to know the OFFICIAL Church teaching on birth control always being intrinsically wrong, see here: http://www.catholic.com/library/Birth_Control.asp

The Heritage study wrongly assumes that almost all temporary workers will become permanent and eventually citizens. This ignores the fact that Mexican migration has traditionally been circular, with most Mexican migrants eventually returning home.

If this is true, then why do we need to consider offering them a pathway to citizenship.

When they empty Mexico out, maybe we can move there! ;)

I suspect, like many of our elites, they assume that anyone moving to the US, in a few years, has the same behaviors as the rest of the US, ie, lower birthrates. This is what happens when you don't live amongst the *regular* people....you don't have a clue about human nature.

It would certainly help if we could cut off all aid, however, what do you actually believe the odds of that are? I'll tell you. Slim and none. So, it doesn't matter what you you're in favor of. It won't happen, and it's a fact that our generous system attracts people who are perfectly willing to let YOU foot the bill for them. That's fine with me, if you choose to foot the bill for people, but you're also making ME and everyone else do it.

Since they would do the circle thing, how long until we have polling booths set up in Mexico proper, for those that have dual citizenship?

Without the faith that God is in control, and this is happening for a reason, I would be thinking of a lead based solution.

This is an argument that has cropped up since the Heritage report. What it basically says is that the new limits are so high that they will never be met because there are not enough potential immigrants to physically fill them. That is the very definition of open borders.

In what was truly an amnesty

So is this.

This ignores the fact that Mexican migration has traditionally been circular, with most Mexican migrants eventually returning home.

I would like to see proof of this.

Immigration estimates from the 80s have been shown to be underestimates.

During the past decade, legal and illegal immigration combined has averaged 1.5 million a year

The above statement is false. Last year the Border Patrol made almost 2 million apprehensions and although there are recidivists, far more illegals end up getting away.

With historically low unemployment rates, how exactly is the demand in the U.S. economy for workers "fast becoming an outdated factor"?

My point is that more and more are coming just for the freebies.
