Hastert has become an embarassment and a liability to the Republican agenda, and he *should be* smart enough to step aside (after killing the "free goodies for illegals" bill that is coming over from the Senate, of course) as Speaker and let some new blood lead the pubbies. President Bush deserves Senate and House leaders who can push through conservative goals, not "make nice" with the felonious Dems.
I'm so mad at Hastert I could just spit, too! He is HANDING control of Congress to the Dims with this latest shenanigans. I wrote the other day that the ONLY explanation for this stupidty is: secret FBI files in the hands of "she-who-must-not-be-elected".
I'll buy that.
Hastert also advocated not rebuilding New Orleans after Katrina until I pointed out to him that every last kernel of grain for export from his district was shipped through the port of New Orleans.
Miss M...I think we're seeing the beginnings of a revolt. The conservative caucus in the House may not quite yet have the votes to elect Pence as Speaker, but in a 3 way race they can dictate who will be..The way the whip's race played out...basically they cut the legs off of Blount..he's been neutered..so perhaps they supported Boehner (sp?) for majority leader in return for a promise to support Pence for Speaker..
Not to mention that the fellow congressman is a RAT! That was beyond infuriating when I first heard him defending William Jefferson, Democrat.
But he's right that Leadership positions- including Speaker- should be term limited by the caucus.
