He said he joined the U.S. Army because he felt a need to serve his adopted country. "I think we take it for granted that this freedom we're enjoying is always going to be here, and it's not," he said. "People dislike the military, but when they're in trouble they always come looking for us. So, as a citizen, we need to make an effort to serve and protect the freedom that we took for granted."We need more immigrants like Master Sergeant Sar. More native-borns like him wouldn't hurt, either.

I knew this soldier when he was assigned to A Company, 10th Group. He was a hard charger that was only cowed by the female Russian language instructor we had at the Foreign Language Training Center in Garmisch.
It's good to know that soldiers of his caliber are still on the line.
