Your idea of "snakeoil capitalism" is very true. With new freedoms (as much as the Chinese might have) come the dangers, along with the blessings of a "free market".
I hope they have the opportunity to live and learn just like we did here.

The stuff was 12% alcohol so it "cured" a lot of ills.
It is alleged that it was heavily used by the late Hank Williams.
