The government said al-Batawi confessed under questioning

I'm guessing the ACLU was not in the room during the "questioning".

No, a very DULL saw!

Let the punishment fit the crime, but not too quickly.

Ref: Why in bloody hell is this even IN the newspaper? Now every terrorist on that list will certainly have an opportunity to disappear. Sometimes the news media uses absolutely no common sense at all.

It seems to me that you are assuming that the News Media is on OUR side. An assumption which I believe is HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE.

"Didn't you get the memo?

FR has deteriorated quite a bit in terms of quality threads.

Cheers."

No accident in my opinion, but the result of a broad, systematic attack by Leftists.

"I wouldn't assume any such thing. Depending on the size of the database including the names, it could provide more leads which will now be missed because someone published this. I'm sure many of the people will need to be located and their contacts determined by long-term surveillance. It also has the potential result of compromising sources."

Valid points.

"I still don't understand any purpose in putting this sort of information out to the public.

I'm open to hearing one good reason beyond a public feel-good measure. I can't think of one."

Well I'll try and give you one, don't know if you will consider my effort a success or not. The rationale is this (I'm not saying the justification is right), the Iraqi government is not accomplishing very much at this time. The situation in Iraq is pretty bad. This is an accomplishment of their government. They felt a need to announce it and try to get credit for it. At the same time, they may not have the adequate sophistication in terms of how costly such a press release can be.
