Talk of Pelosi as Speaker Delights Both Parties
NY Times ^ | 5/29/06 | Mark Leibovich

WASHINGTON, May 29 — Hoping to win a Congressional majority in November, some optimistic Democratic lawmakers have taken to referring to Representative Nancy Pelosi as "speaker," as in speaker of the House. So have some optimistic Republicans.

--snip--

Ms. Pelosi, the California Democrat and House minority leader, lends herself to easy caricature by Republicans. She is an unapologetic liberal, with a voting record to match (the Republican National Committee chairman, Ken Mehlman, said she was neither a "New Democrat" nor an "Old Democrat" but a "prehistoric Democrat"). She is wealthy (married to an investment banker, she has assets listed at more than $16 million). She represents San Francisco, which Republicans love to invoke as a hotbed of counterculture decadence and extremism.

--snip--

Republicans have made a target of Ms. Pelosi — who has become ubiquitous on campaign podiums, in interviews and in Republican talking points — because the notion of Democrats' winning a Congressional majority is hardly the pipe dream it was 18 months ago.

As President Bush's approval ratings languish with those of Republican lawmakers, polls suggest that Democrats could be on course to lead the House for the first time in 12 years.

As a result, Ms. Pelosi teeters on a fine line: between the need to say what Democrats plan to do if they win control of the House and the danger of speaking too soon. She begins some sentences with "when we win" and others with "if we win." Sometimes she will tack on a qualifier ("no matter who wins this election") or caveat ("that's if the election were held today").

"I don't want to appear overconfident," she said.

well if the dems win the house and senate the liberals can not vote for Hillary, because then they would have all branches of the govt... Well... they're hypocrites so they probably would drop that line.

Let the delusion continues, we have seen liberals enjoying thusands of fake orgasms and declaring thousands of fake victories in the last five years only to end up crushed by the bitter reality of defeat.

If am a democrat and my "political IQ is over 80" (a rare thing in the democrat party), I will horrified of what the RNC is going to do in the fall campaign regarding exposing Nancy Pelosi to voters nation wide, it will be a nightmare beyond belief.

Clutching his hands to his heart, Senate Minority Leader Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada, center, calls for lawmakers, and especially Republicans, to clean up the tainted relationship between lawmakers and lobbyists, at a Democratic political event to outline their agenda for reform in the wake of the scandal involving former lobbyist Jack Abramoff, at the Library of Congress in Washington in this Jan. 18, 2006, file photo. From left are: Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., Reid, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of Calif., and Rep. James E. Clyburn, D-SC. Reid accepted free ringside tickets from the Nevada Athletic Commission to three championship boxing matches while that state agency was seeking to influence Reid's unsuccessful effort to increase federal oversight of boxing. So has George Stephanopolous. He keeps calling her "Speaker Pelosi".
You know George - - he's the non-partisan moderator of the Sunday morning staple, 'This Week With David Brinkley'.

"a hotbed of counterculture decadence and extremism"

It's not San Francisco. It's the Democrat Party--the Party of Decadence--the Party of Sociopaths and Morons--S&M.

Better not start countin' chickens.

The American people are not about to entrust national security to the likes of Nancy Pelosi.

And furthermore, they know that, inept as the Republicans are, the Democrats will actively encourage open borders and illegal immigration because they expect them to enlarge the Democrat base support.

And also, the American people know that the Democrats will do everything possible to drag the U.S.A. down the same road of decadence that has doomed Europe.

The American people are not fools.

The Democrats are delusional.

I know I sound like a broken record here..but the GOP should play ads in conservative districts saying that they would pay for pelosi to come to that district, have a picture taken with the dem..hands held high of course and remind their voters that sf pelosi would become speaker of the house thanks to that candidate..how many dem candidates would take them up on the offer???

Even if she did make it, I'm sure she'd have another face tightening before taking the position.

Ya know, she is just soooo creepy looking. Plastic surgery gone bad. Reminds me of the children in the 'Village of the Damned'. Except she's not a blonde.

I like her matronly bosom, but that's it.

If they were to take the House in November - it would be some consolation to watch all the dancin' goin' on as the Democrats find a rationale for her NOT to be Speaker. Not enough consolation, mind you, but measurable.

The democrat have been putting most of their eggs in this stupid "Culture of Corruption" motto to attack Republicans and win back the Congress in this coming elections. Now all this stupid strategy has been annihilated because one of their own was caught with cash money in his freezer. However the delusional democrat will continue with this dead strategy and waste money and time working on it but the voters will see the obvious, their guy is the one caught with money in his fridge.

Don't tell me the American people arn't fools.
Their favorite TV shows are American Idol and Survivor.
The American people are in fact complete and udder fools.

We reelect people who screw us for decades.
We are so far down the river we have no place left to piss.
