WASHINGTON - Another reason to worry about global warming: more and itchier poison ivy. The noxious vine grows faster and bigger as carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere rise, researchers report Monday...

We've got a Eurasian transplant popping up around here. It's called Giant hogweed and it makes poison ivy look like childs play. The plannt has caustic sap that leaves scarring and can even cause blindness.

There's nothing meaner than a near-extinct polar bear with a poison ivy rash. We're all doomed!

Did the founders of the National Enquirer take over the AP?

"The plant has caustic sap that leaves scarring and can even cause blindness."

That sounds like a plant I ran into in the Bahamas some years back that the locals call "Poison Wood." Where it touched my bare arms, it looked and felt like someone had taken a blow torch to them.

That's no joke! Global warming is a natural cycle. Temperatures on the other planets of our solar system are rising at the same ratio as the temps on our globe.

Just for the record:

THE COASTERS
Poison Ivy
(Leiber/Stoller)

She comes on like a rose but everybody knows
she´ll get you in Dutch ,you can look but you better not touch

Poison Ivy ,poison Ivy
late at night while you´re sleeping
poison ivy comes a´creeping around

She´s pretty as a daisy but look out man ,she´s crazy
she´ll really do you in , if you let her under your skin

Poison Ivy ,poison Ivy
late at night while you´re sleeping
poison ivy comes a´creeping around

Measles make you bumpy and mumps´ll make you lumpy
and chicken pox´ll make you jump and twitch
a common cold´ll fool ya and whooping cough´ll cool ya
but poison ivy ,Lord´ll make you itch

You´re gonna need an ocean of calamine lotion
you´ll be scratching like a hound ,the minute you start to mess around

Poison Ivy ,poison Ivy
late at night while you´re sleeping
poison ivy comes a´creeping around

Measles make you bumpy and mumps´ll make you lumpy
and chicken pox´ll make you jump and twitch
a common cold´ll fool ya and whooping cough´ll cool ya
but poison ivy ,Lord´ll make you itch

You´re gonna need an ocean of calamine lotion

Poison Ivy ,poison Ivy

poison ivy comes a´creeping around

I know, that's why it is so silly. They'd blame solar flares on global warming and the idiots will lap it up as truth.

I just did some quick research and your hogweed is indeed poisonwood. http://www.sfrc.ufl.edu/4h/Poisonwood/poisonwo.htm

This sort of tripe reminds me of a "study" that was done here in Minnesoata a couple of years ago.

Dove hunting was legalized three years ago in Minnesota. The tree huggers came up with this: Doves eat weed seeds. (They do) With fewer doves eating weed seeds, farmers would need to use more herbacides. More herbacides in the fields would cause higher levels of pollution in the rivers and lakes due to run-off after rains.

Fewer doves translates to more weed seeds for the rest of the doves, in my way of thinking...

For me, itch is an understatement. I get downwind of the stuff and I seem to catch it.

I remember years ago as a kid and had gotten it. In my sleep one night I had scratched so much flesh off my legs soaking my mattress with blood and my mom happened to peek in the room and saw the white sheets that were now red.

I was barely able to get conscious and taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Dam, I'm sitting here typing about it and itching.

I am a conservationist. But I would cry no tears if this hideous weed disappeared off the face of the earth.

You know, it didn't initially make me itch (lived around it for years, never worried about touching it, never had a problem). THEN one year, I pulled some off the house, and voila, AWFUL rash! Every contact after that was worse than the one before. So.....you might be able to develope an allergy to it. Just a word of warning (it's noxious stuff!)

I am 67 years old. When I was a very young child I used to spend my summers with an aunt and uncle on Long Island. I came back to NYC looking like a giant scab from poision ivy. Poison ivy has always been with us and is still with us.

A really silly global warming ping!

I suspect more co2 makes most plants grow faster.

What kind of idiot introduces a supercharged poison ivy as an ornamental?
