You Can't Stay on the Fence About Immigration

YOU CAN'T STAY ON THE FENCE ABOUT IMMIGRATION

The bitter battle over the immigration bill has become a legislative minefield in this election year, though it's still unclear whether November will see any heavy political fallout as a result.

To put it mildly, this issue is a thorny wilderness, festering intra-party divisions and brewing voter backlashes. It could inflict additional wounds on George W. Bush's battle-scarred presidency, shrink the GOP's congressional Republican majority and, possibly, hurt some vulnerable Democrats.

Let's slice up some of these pitfalls.

Stand Up For America !

"We have room for but one flag, the American flag...
We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...
And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

dunkin donuts - press 2 for English...... We could set up some sort of recognition placard that employers could display stating that they were in conformance of all immigration laws in hiring their employees...like a "Betty Crocker Seal of Excellence", haha... like the Crest statement on their toothpaste cartons, lol...

"Wishful thinking."

Not a bit. Of course this was a dog & pony show to persuade the uninformed masses the government is serious about cracking down on the illegal aliens. All they want is just barely enough credibility (what they cannot ever get from loyal American conservatives who were on to them long ago) so as to hang on to enough of the badly fractured Republican base to prevent a disaster at the ballot box with a bunch of RINOs getting booted out of office.

"...to sell AMNESTY for 12 to 20 million illegal aliens."

It's not selling.

Its my understanding that the next big propoganda piece is going to be the announcement by Bush's Homeland Security of a method to be used by employers for identifying illegal vs. legal prospective employees. Part of the announcement will include the explanation that employers could not/should not be held accountable because employers had no method of accurately verifying documentation (as if Tyson was unaware they were employing illegals.) Employers are to be completely let off the hook, of course, but the implementation of this program (technology several years down the road), is going to be the answer to the problem.

I suppose at that point, bitt, Bush will reassure us that those employers using the new technology will probably get a 'seal of approval'!

I couldn't agree more. We've posted quite a bit of information here that suggests the same AND shows some indication that our government will not necessarily take the side one might expect.

Can you believe there's STILL no immigration status database for employers to use? Here's a brand new thread:

Our government is VERY predictable. Snapshot today, add multiple millions more population, subtract taxable income from each and every legal American citizen to fund social programs while exhausting social security. Plus side (government point of view) - ultra-efficient highway through the breadbasket of America and "international" traffic.

California gang presence felt in Chicago

Snip: It’s not a new phenomenon for gang members to live in the suburbs, but a number of factors are increasingly pushing them out from the city, Wagner said.

City of Pontiac, Michigan faced with tough choices

Snip: It cited a massive investment slated for Mexico, one whose full scope had not been made public by the company. Ford is closing plants in this country and is scheduled to eliminate between 25,000 and 30,000 jobs in the next six years.

During that same period, the document indicates, it will invest more than $9 billion in Mexico, including revamping an existing plant and building a new one. In addition, the Ford plans indicate it expects to increase its purchasing of Mexican-made parts by 300 percent and shift some engineering work to that country.

Ford is not alone, of course, in increasing its business in Mexico. General Motors, DaimlerChrysler and Nissan and Toyota also are investing more there.

Texas game wardens unlikely border patrol

Snippets: From the Gulf of Mexico to El Paso, the Parks and Wildlife Department has become a de facto state border patrol agency, and its wardens routinely apprehend smugglers carrying narcotics or illegal immigrants.

Memo to the President: Detecting illegal alien workers and their employers is easy per Alan Keyes

Snip: First, upgrade security at our borders using manpower, barriers, physical security measures (i.e., CCTV, drones), and no-nonsense penalties for violation of immigration laws.

Second, arrest and prosecute those who knowingly hire illegal aliens and those who harbor illegal alien workers. No more slaps on their wrists; give them some hard time in prison. You'll see how fast illegal alien employers become US citizen employers almost overnight when CEOs and managers see their colleagues wearing orange jumpsuits while housekeeping in the cells they share with their de facto husbands.

If those two components are implemented, the jobs will dry up and the illegal aliens will head home or turn themselves in for deportation. Mexicans living in the US illegally, will go back and take the jobs the Guatemalan illegal aliens are filling in Mexico.

The opportunity for employment is the most important magnet attracting illegal aliens to the United States. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 established an employment eligibility verification process and a sanctions program for fining employers for noncompliance.

Fentanyl laced drugs turn up in Ohio

Snip: Police in Columbus, Dayton and Mansfield have found a painkiller-laced heroin that has killed addicts in Detroit, Chicago and Philadelphia. Fentanyl turned up in six of 10 batches of heroin confiscated by Mansfield police, said police laboratory director Anthony Tambasco. The lab started testing for the drug just before Memorial Day, after officials heard of numerous recent deaths in the Detroit area, he said.

The DEA says heroin distribution is increasing in Ohio, with the drug being shipped directly from Chicago, Detroit, New York and the Mexican border. A recent case involving fentanyl was traced from Pittsburgh to a lab in Mexico, Tambasco said.

As Mexico sees it, a UN report on migrant rights

Snip: Around 85 per cent of Mexican migrants in the United States have resided there for more than three years; only one in five has been naturalized. Mexicans are the largest migrant group in the United States and in 30 of the 51 states in that country, accounting for 30 per cent of all foreign residents.

Another Snip: In the period 2001-2003, most temporary migrants were undocumented, in that 75 per cent did not have authorization to cross the border and 79 per cent did not have permission to work in the United States (compared with 48 per cent and 51 per cent, respectively, in 1993-1997), yet 82 per cent of them were in work during this period.

Even Another Snip: Mexico has a database with photographs of 10.6 million foreigners who have entered the country by air over the past year and a half. Through the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS), Mexico receives information in real time on passengers arriving at the country’s international airports before the aircraft has taken off from its place of origin.

Before passengers arrive, the migration authorities already know their name, registration document details, age, migration status, airline and flight number. Once on national territory, their passport is scanned and entered in the SIOM database.

From Grassfire.org Alliance

The media is pushing an agenda that is counter to what
the vast majority of Americans believe about immigration...

and the worst part--they are labeling any and all who
disagree with their position as bigots and hate-mongers!

The truth is, eight of ten American citizens are saying
"no" to amnesty, yet the media is ignoring this fact--
choosing instead to highlight the "plight" of the
illegals who are breaking our laws to gain entry
into the U.S.

Left unchecked and unchallenged, the media
will drive their pro-illegal agenda right past the
noses of American citizens.

That is why Grassfire is continuing to work with the
nation's foremost media watchdog in the nation, the
Media Research Center to expose the liberal media's
bias on immigration, and demand they report to the
American people the truth about this debate. Because
unless the citizens of our nation have the truth,
they ultimately have nothing.

Grassfire is launching an EMERGENCY petition to rally
100,000 citizens over the next 30 days who are joining
together to demand that the media tell the truth about
immigration, and not attempt to sway this critical
debate about our nation's future.

Please take a moment to sign this important petition:

http://www.grassfire.net/403/petition.asp?RID=11112725

Our nation's sovereignty is at stake. That is why we must
take the media to task on the immigration issue, and
pressure them to report the whole truth.

But it won't happen if we don't take action.

Please take action right now by adding your name to
our petition:

http://www.grassfire.net/403/petition.asp?RID=11112725

80 percent of American citizens are standing
against amnesty. We are the majority in the immigration debate!
But we are being ignored by the media who is intent on breaking
down our borders.

Over the next 30 days, we want to rally at least 100,000
petitions to confront the media--each of the networks and
the liberal newspapers across our nation!

But it starts with you. Please take a moment to add your
name to our petition:

http://www.grassfire.net/403/petition.asp?RID=11112725

We cannot allow the media to be intellectually dishonest with
the American people at such a critical time as this. That is
why Grassfire, along with the MRC is exposing the media, and
rallying a strong grassroots presence to hold them accountable.

Thanks in advance for taking immediate action!

Grassfire.org Alliance

P.S. After adding your name to our petition, please forward
this message directly to 30-40 of your friends and family
urging them to follow your lead by adding their names as well.

Peppermint "candy" puts Canadian in hospital

Snip: The Coquitlam geologist was drugged and robbed in Mexico after accepting candy from a stranger on a bus trip which turned into a 30-hour nightmare that landed him in hospital. "Basically, I didn't do what my mother told me, which was to never accept candy from a stranger," the 67-year-old said.

Godwin, who spoke out about his ordeal in a bid to prevent others from suffering a similar fate, said he should have thought twice about accepting the peppermint candy offered by the man who helped him store his laptop and knapsack on the June 2 bus trip from Guadalajara to Michoacan.

Latinos rattled by Ohio sheriff's mission

Snip: Local authorities across the country complain that they bear the financial burden of illegal immigration, yet they lack the power to enforce immigration law. In Butler County, Ohio, Sheriff Richard Jones is on a mission to tackle the problem. And he's frightening the local Hispanic population.

Jones' hero is John Wayne; a near life-sized poster of the actor hangs next to his desk. With a similar swagger, Jones is on a mission to prod, cajole, even shame federal officials into action. In the parking area outside the county jail, two new signs proclaim "Illegal Aliens Here," with an arrow pointing inside.

***Our suburban was made in Mexico***

My hubby asked me to find out what vehicles ARE built in the USA that we would consider buying.

. Ford is eliminating American plants and building and expanding in Mexico - so they are OFF our list;

. Chrysler had an ad (I believe it was in Africa) (I posted a link on TM about it in the last month) suggesting "no American parts" in one of their vehicles - so they are also OFF our list;

. GM is also closing plants in the USA and building vehicles in Mexico - add them to our no purchase list.

Now I have to research the rest.... And they wonder why we don't "buy American." This FReeper and her husband used to watch Dinah Shore on TV singing "Buy your Chevrolet in the USA. There was pride in the Motor City about building cars in America. Hoping their "global" market supports them because this family WILL buy products made in America by Americans. Even if the profits go global, at least we've helped some of our fellow Americans keep their jobs somewhere along the way. If I find out those jobs are going to illegals, however, all bets are off.

...says the sheriff's crackdown on illegal immigrants has many in the local Hispanic community frightened of the police...

So why do so many of our lawmakers eagerly want to protect lawbreakers? The law-abiding Hispanic community has nothing to fear, and there are a lot of law-abiding Hispanics in this country, contrary to what illegals and their supporters would have us believe. How do I know this is true? Because there are Hispanics in MY family and they work in jobs with LOTS of public contact - primarily Hispanic.
