Saw it again tonight...
Thanks for serving. I hope I get to meet you in person someday. It will be my treat.
.
Actually,
the airing of "WE WERE SOLDIERS" just finished on the West Coast...
MINUS its stirring hymn...
'The MANSIONS of the LORD"
...that was good enough for President RONALD REAGAN's funeral service in Washington, D.C.
Anti-Freedom CBS is still Anti-Fredom CBS, perhaps..?
.
Thank you for your service to our country and to us. This was the first time I have seen the movie. I cried my eyes out. You all were heroes. I have three young sons and to me, every young soldier is somebody's little boy (or girl).
Thank you too, for the fascinating info you are adding so that those of us who don't know as much Vietnam War history as we should can learn the truth.
.
Thank you for your CLARITY, Yaelle.
If we Vietnam Veterans only had had the Internet to counter media lies about our fight for Freedom...
...a once Free South Vietnam might still be Free today.
.
.
After Senator TED KENNEDY got Congress to cut off all funding for South Vietnam to fight for its own Freedom with,
just as the Soviet Union gave $6 Billion in Military Aid to the Communsit North for its final solution in the then Free South,
...came:
Pictures of a vietnamese Re-Education Camp

...and the death of millions of poor S.E. Asian souls in the process.
Sound a bit familiar today for our new War on Terrorism in Iraq..?
The Enemy is now Within,
...and always has been.
.
Thanks for the link. What's your opinion on the movie, too much artistic license, cinema verité or somewhere in between?
We were living in those same barracks at Benning (as shown in the movie) when those letters went out. My Dad said something about them not being ready and having only one chaplain.
They also cut out the first exclamation in the shoe store story told by Galloway to Col. Moore but that contained an expletive, IIRC, and therefore is a "forgivable" cut. The same goes for cutting some of the gorier parts. All in all, I'd sure like to know the name of the editor who made these decisions. At least the guy who makes the paper bags for the grocery store has the stones to sign his work.
.
'The MANSIONS of the Lord' may have missed being sung on CBS-TV last night...
...but it was just stirringly sung
on worldwide TV at Memorial Day Ceremonies at Arlington's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Just for the LOVE of it..!!!
.
Wonderful indeed. Thank you for the ping!

English Translation
Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone
Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone
When they come I will stand my ground
Stand my ground I'll not be afraid
Thoughts of home take away my fear
Sweat and blood hide my veil of tears
Once a year say a prayer for me
Close your eyes and remember me
Never more shall I see the sun
For I fell to a Germans gun
Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone
Lay me down in the cold cold ground
Where before many more have gone
Where before many more have gone
In memory of Sgt. Charles Stuart MacKenzie
Seaforth Highlanders
Who along with many others gave up his life
So that we can live free
We will remember them
Thank you. I see why I had trouble "understanding" before. Viewed the TV movie with closed caption which helped. What fighters the Scots were, and still are, I think. This was most appropriate for a Memorial Day thread.
