Dick Durbin: Consult with Mexico on Border Fence

The number two Democrat in the Senate is urging the House of Representatives not to repudiate a provision in the immigration reform bill that would force the U.S. to consult with Mexico before building a border fence.

"To think that we would build a fence without any conversation or consultation with Mexico - that doesn't make sense," Sen. Dick Durbin told "Fox News Sunday."

Asked why he felt such consultations were necessary, the top Democrat explained: "Good fences make good neighbors, too. And remember that when it's all over there will be cities across the border from one another in the United States and Mexico. And you'll find in most instances they'll try to find a level of cooperation.

"We ultimately want to have the cooperation of the Mexican government," Durbin insisted.

An amendment slipped into the Senate bill at the last minute by Sen. Chris Dodd mandates consultations with Mexican officials before any fence construction begins.

It reads:

"CONSULTATION REQUIREMENT -- Consultations between United States and Mexican authorities at the federal, state, and local levels concerning the construction of additional fencing and related border security structures along the United States-Mexico border shall be undertaken prior to commencing any new construction, in order to solicit the views of affected communities, lessen tensions and foster greater understanding and stronger cooperation on this and other important issues of mutual concern."

I'd get them to pay for half of it.

Naw. They can supply the labor. I think the workers are already here...

Unlike you, I think Jim has a sense of humor.

How about, "We're building a fence on your side, and you're going to build it, pay for it and maintain it. Or else."

The sorriest people on the earth are those who consider themselves moderate.
The far left can not get anything passed without the help of these people.
They would compromise away America and as such are just scum.
The only thing they care about is "Whats in it for me?".
At least the far left (as wrong as they may be) are honest".

Several years ago a crackhead living behind me stole my car and then sold it to shady auto dealer - who then sold it to someone else.

The police did very little because I had no evidence as to who actually took the car. It took me 2 weeks and about 50 hours of my own detective work to track down my own car and have the police recover it (since they now had evidence).

Do you guys think it was rude of me to start locking my car without receiving permission from the crackhead?

I'm worried I may have offended him. Maybe I should return the restitution money he had to give me.

Well, that's appropriate... I always thought that Durbin was 'number two' (in child speak) myself.

Senator Dubrin has mental problems, or maybe he is just a traitor. This is still a sovereign country and we do not need nor should be ever ask an enemy nation (Mexico certainly has become one) permission for anything dealing with our national security.

"Senator Durbin says we should consult with the Mexican Government first. Remind me again what we're fighting for?"

d) Consultation Requirement.--Federal, State, and local representatives in the United States shall consult with their counterparts in Mexico concerning the construction of additional fencing and related border security structures along the international border between the United States and Mexico, as authorized by this title, before the commencement of any such construction in order to-- (1) solicit the views of affected communities; (2) lessen tensions; and (3) foster greater understanding and stronger cooperation on this and other important security issues of mutual concern.

Yes, by all means...let's consult with them first to "foster greater understanding".

Well the very least you could have done is consulted with him first about locking your car in order to "foster greater understanding." I mean, where are your manners?

"We do not advocate shooting illegals or mining the borders." - Jim Robinson

Who's talking about shooting illegals or land mines? We're taking about a moat filled with gators or sharks! :-)

If mexico wants to help pay for the fence I am willing to let them choose the color. Good neighbors should always consult before building a fence.

Believe me there there are plenty of us conservatives in Illinois working and praying to relieve ourselves of this traitor. Part of the problem is many of the Republicans are RINO's too, and the only time we get a decent one, Peter Fitzgerald, he goes only one term and flees given his own party hated him because he turned the Feds on the corruption within the state Republican party (and they convicted a former Republican state governor on several felonies;the beauty of that is now the guns are turned on the Democrats who are sweating it out)Regardless, if anyone deserves to be considered a traitor to freedom from government interference, taxation, gun grabbin' treason, etc. it's tricky, "dicky turban" durbin, a guy who can speak out of both sides of his mouth with incredible ease.Pray for us here in Illinois, we need God's intervention.

"The only question is who told Specter to add the amendment requiring Mexican approval before a fence can be installed."

No one needs to tell Specter that. He's as liberal as they come.

WTF?? Sounds like Durban is working for Mexico instead of U.S. taxpayers.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

These guys are all one worlders. They honestly see government at this point, as a global totalitarian entity. All nation states are essentially the same and excessively nationalistic and even imperialistic. All nations , in their view, should come under the control of a world government run under democratic socialism, administering wealth from those with means to those with needs. No more exploitation by "greedy" American capitalists.
