The Washington Post reports this morning that prospects for the Senate's immigration package are dimming, due to House members' concerns about November's election:

Republican House members facing the toughest races this fall are overwhelmingly opposed to any deal that provides illegal immigrants a path to citizenship -- an election-year dynamic that significantly dims the prospects that President Bush will win the immigration compromise he is seeking, according to Republican lawmakers and leadership aides. Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) will not allow a vote on a House-Senate compromise that does not have the support of most GOP lawmakers or one that would undermine the reelection chances of his at-risk members, aides said. According to GOP lawmakers and strategists, about 75 percent of the 231 House Republicans are steadfastly opposed to the Senate bill or even a watered-down version of it.

The Post's article cites poll's that supposedly show strong support for the administration's plan, but, as one House member says, "they must not be polling anyone in [my] District."

Meanwhile Mexico itself maintains some of the most rabid immigration laws on the planet.

Thanks for the history lesson, but I think you missed the part of my post where I stated that California has consistently voted for the Democrat Presidential candidate for almost 20 years. You want liberal judges. Vote democrat. Apparently, California is happy with the judges they have.

Federal judge Mariana Pfaelzer was nominated by Democrat POTUS and confirmed by Democrat Senators from California - luckily, Judge William Matthew Byrne (who issued the TRO against Prop 187) is no longer on the bench - I think that's the whole point in Rokke's post. Did you know that the person who wrote Prop 187, Dick Mountjoy, is running against Feinstein? Time for Californians to put their votes where their mouths are.

So many fallacies in your argument.

# 1. You are dumping ILLIGEAL immigrants with LEGAL immigrants.
HUGE difference.
There are very, very few illegal immigrants in Taiwan, and the the legal immigrants they have , the Taiwanese CHOSE themselves, and they are mostly very highly educated people that are invited in and help the Taiwanese hi-tech companies like UMC and TSMC maintain their world leading form.

#. 2 , When did "participate in the world economy" become equal to letting in vast numbers of illiterate illegals through open boarders again?
Island nations like Japan and Taiwan are some of the biggest trading nations on the planet, and they have very, very few illegal immigrants at all.
Open brooders has nothing to do with "participating in the world economy.

The Mexican national budget for '05 was 181 billion in American dollars. Mexican immigrants in the US sent home over $20 billion to be spent in the Mexican economy. That amounts to 11% of the Mexican federal budget. Fox can easily afford to spend $1 in order to get back $3 taken from the US economy.

The be honest this fall election is going to turn in to a referendum on the illegals... it will be in many ways a one issue vote.... so we need to make it clear so the a message is sent to DC...

It would be best to have formal alliance of people of any party with a stand alone one issue "Plank" that formally ID them on this one issue to leave to any room in any one mind where the voters stand

As evidenced by our 5.3% growth rate in GDP and our historically low unemployment rate, I'm not convinced illegal immigration is holding us back as much as some might suggest.

And finally, it the ultimate irony to read all your posts complaining about "illiterate Mexicans" when your own posts are so full of misspellings and incorrect grammar that I have to read them several times just to try to figure out what you might be trying to say. For starters...it's a "border", not a "boarder".
