I saw last night, that the documents siezed had been asked for in a subpoena for over nine months. Jefferson was refusing to turn them over.

Yes, I have read/heard this, but only in passing, not as the headline.

Was ignoring the subpeona a calculated risk on Jefferson's part? Did he really think that as a Black Caucus member he could get away with that? Did he have any reassurances from his leadership? Or was it just his interpretation of Congressional immunity?

How deep does this go, I wonder?

So according to Hastert, a Congressman under investigation can hide documents in his office?

Yes, I read/heard that also.

Another thing. For Hastert & Polosi to be screaming Constitutional separation of powers is stupid. They did not scream separation of powers when the FBI got warrants and raided judges offices before. So there has been a president set.

To me this is the defining reason that his office had to be searched for the documents.

His arrogant attitude towards a subpoena was a blatant act of a person that feels that they are above the law.

If you don't answer a subpoena, you suffer the consequences.

Even if you are part of the elite ruling class. Oops, there is no ruling class in the USA...

This needs to be brought up every time people complain about removing documents from his office. He was obviously hiding them and breaking the law by doing so.
