Hagel: Of course you fix the border first. 1986 was amnesty. This isn't amnesty. We have an opportunity to restructure and do it right.
Russert: When the president addressed the nation, you said he doesn't get it.
Sensennbrenner: This failed miserably 20 years ago and this is a repeat of 20 years ago. Former AG Meese wrote an op ed piece Wednesday that at least President Reagan was honest and called it amnesty. What the Senate is doing invites document fraud. Meese said there was huge document fraud and the same construct is in the senate bill.
Provision in Senate bill that officials can't investigatgte beyond the piece of paper the illegal relies on and government employee is subject to criminal investigation if the try to look foruther into the document.
Also talks about the SS raid on the fund and rewarding the illegal immigrant and rewarding them for the time they were here illegally and dipping into the SS fund.
Russert: Don't illegals contribute over $400B into the SS fund.
Sensenbreenner: The illegals can't get numbers on their own. The entire transaction was fraud and the senate bill retroactively awards that fraud.
Hagel: The senate bill puts into place a biometric identification card and every illegal must have one and they can't get a job without it. IT's tamper proof and fraud resistent. We're at full employment today. We have more jobs today than ever in the history of the country. Our bill deals with these temporary worker visas - low and high skill.
Europe and France specifically did some things wrong and perpetuated a lower class. That's a problem the Europeans have today. You can't perpetuate that lower class.
I didn't know this: Frist is not running for the Senate again.
I can't wait until MTP comes on here. Sensenbrenner did a tremendous job in his press conference on Friday. It sounds like he is chewing up Hagel and spitting him out.
Was this from you or on TV? It's a great point to keep in mind. The last thing the US needs to do is create an underclass of workers as has happened in European countries.
ref post #70, Hagel is right about America having full employment, but that gives employers no chance to fire employees that stink up the place on the job. If the Employee is lazy, cops an attitude, does not show up a lot, takes off early or comes in late,is rude to customers, there is practically nowhere in the Country except Michigan where there would be People lining up for those jobs if the Employer fires these "Users of Oxygen". If they fire the goof-off and hire someone else, they may turn out to be worse than the goof-off, so they are afraid to fire them. Hagel is pretty much wrong on everything else, and he is helping to start a Civil War.
