I appreciate what we have in so many people being able to voice their opinions and positions, as well as others being able to challenge them and who are willing to argue the other side. To be honest, conservatives didn’t have that ability for years. Yes, years. For many of us, we felt like we were one lone voice in the wilderness without any avenue of expression. One of the biggest attractions to Ronald Reagan was FINALLY there was ONE person who was saying what we were all saying.
Even a person with one passionate issue provides me with something to think about. In many cases, there are things I had not considered or things I needed to hear. It’s not worth the time to argue with every dissention. I learned that having Libertarians and one issue zealots in our Republican party here. I looked and could not find it, but I remember Reagan saying something to the effect that if we agree with him 80% of the time, we’re doing well. If true, and I believe it is, I am happy to have the support that moves us in the direction I prefer even if we can’t get there as quickly as I’d prefer.

In a way. A Constitutional Republic works by electing representatives, not direct representation. We have to choose who represents us and it’s up to us to choose someone who most closely represents our views. Justice Rehnquist commented that we were not a republic just to stop tyranny of the majority but to also stop a tyranny of the “minority.”
Maybe all of this is why I am SO optimistic and happy. I KNOW we are moving in the right direction. I KNOW we have the best leadership in both the congress and the presidency. I KNOW we are moving the US Supreme Court towards following the original intent of the constitution. I KNOW we are better prepared for whatever happens in the years to come.
So how do you get a tax credit if you don't pay any taxes? Well, they send you a check. That is what they do. You file your tax return at the end of the year, and if you have worked and your income was lower, they send you a check. We looked at the numbers. If you are a minimum wage worker and you make around $14,000 a year, that family would receive a check, a subsidy from the Government of 4,700-and-some-odd dollars.

Here is just a little food for thought in any conversation about the "rich" not paying their fair share. Many American workers, and I am in favor of the EITC in preference to welfare, GET money from the government every year. The dems have successfully massaged the language of taxes to convince these people that the rich GET a HUGE check from the government every year.
That is why we also have to train ourselves never to say "get back" when referring to taxes, but "pay less."
I kind of started to shake my head when he said that about having faith in the American people...
I will just have to say at this point, I pray he is correct...and that maybe he was sending a message to some not too friendly toward him, politicians, when he said that...LOL

LOL, I can't say I "fell in love" with Rummy. He really is NOT my type. As a guy, however, I DID totally enjoy his nailing the MSM with truth and good humor that showed how stuck on stupid they are.

No offense but I'll wait on that one. Anyone lauded by either Democrats or old media is suspect. Nor do I understand why this is a topic at the moment. Could this mean the Democrats are looking for something new?
Bush Senior did a horrible job in selecting economic advisors and much of his economic policies. He never did have someone filling major positions and some went unfilled for years. Bush 41 was so bad that I'm certain Bush 43 will not allow that to happen.
LOL!!! Thanks. I was just a SMSgt working in Air Intelligence Agency, Europe (my part was communications and computer support), I wasn't a "great" man, but worked beside a lot of them (and some GREAT gals, too!).
Gen Hayden was NCEUR in Stuttgart, and we supported his mission. He got there in April '93, I believe, on a selection that began in Dec of '92. The job entailed getting his first star (he was a Col when appointed to it). People see the date of the assignment, and think, "Oh, that was when Clinton was president, so he must have been put in his job by Clinton."
What they don't realize, and I think most military folks on this thread can back me up on, is that appointments/assignments are made months, sometimes even a full year, before you report in. Hayden later left NCEUR to become commander of the Air Intellinge Agency in 1995. Most Air Force Colonel and above assignemnts only last two years. What was Hayden to do, refuse the assignment because people would later say Clinton appointed him so he then owed Clinton? Heck, I got an assignment to Maxwell AFB, Alabama in 1997. So I guess I'm a Clinton stoolie!
Hayden served as an intel chief at Andersen AFB, Guam, during Operation Linebacker I & II, which cummulated in the Christmas bombings of North Vietnam 1972, when the commies walked out of the Paris Peace talks (the ones Kerry thought he could "help" negotiate with). The bombings brought Hanoi to its knees, and led to Nixon's Peace with Honor strategy, which led to final peace agreement ending the war in January, 1973.
Now, if Hayden has served in a combat-related intel role since 1972, how can Greg Kelly and Fox News say he was "brought" on by Clinton to the national intelligence agenda in 1993? A right awful and innaccurate smear. Sometimes Fox New surprises me, and Greg Kelly!!! I really thought he knew better. I think reporters read other reporters stuff and rely on it way too much. Somehow Greg or some other reporter is only looking at the dates and making stupid assumptions.
I should have added, I like Don Evans. You went off on something logical and worth talking about and I reacted poorly with my comment. Sorry. I have dutifully slapped myself back to reality.
This is something that has to be seen on tv. I was ignoring his typical canned sound-bytes until I realized, "Holy crap, he's READING his answers from cue cards !" I've seen enough amateur-hour local commercials to note the tell-tale signs of someone reading from cue cards standing next to the camera. At first, I thought it was just a few questions until I noticed virtually every single response he was reading "lines." Either he had one of his staffers quickly advancing to relevant answers or it was a CBS toady. Not once did Schieffer step in and say, "Senator, are you READING your answers ?" Anyone with half-a-brain could tell what he was up to just by his eye movements. I'd call "conspiracy" with CBS if it wasn't a likely standard practice for what they allow their 'Rat buddies to engage in. As I asked, is this worth alerting Drudge over or asking some media watchdog group to investigate ?

So Durbin thinks this is a shoo-in platform for the Democrats?! Ha, he better guess again. I said this yesterday and I need to say it again!
The democrats are fixin' to lose on this more than the republicans. Believe it or not, a lot of the democratic base is furious with their party for this immigration bill. Unions and Blacks, for example, are hardest hit by excessive immigration. The illegals and even legal third-world workforce are taking the lower paid American workers out at the knees. I never, ever thought I'd agree with a DU'er, but check out THEIR immigration threads. They are, of course, blaming the big coporations and business class, but they see that their dem politicos are mostly in bed with the these classes. It is interesting, to say the least.
In Southern California, 50% of the construction work force is illegal aliens, many if not most paid under the table, which has effectively ruined the American construction workers ability to bring home a decent salary. I guess now these American construction workers can retrain as computer programmers? Well, guess again! The senate immigration bill ALSO increases the HB1 visa for high tech foreign workers from 65,000 to 125,000!!!
The reason? The senators say there are not enough high tech workers in this country! What a crock! They've been grossly misled or are flat out liars. There is no shortage of high tech workers, just a shortage of high tech workers who can work for peanuts! I am a high tech trainer/instructor. I am certified in a bunch of products; I am a Microsoft Certified Trainer. If a person has coded cobol or c for the last couple of decades, he/she can easily be taught asp.net, Java, VB, C#, etc, etc.
My older students (40s-50s) are often asking me if I've heard about any decent jobs, because they are so often without one. Ask me, I'll provide any business man with names and resumes. But guess what? They cannot afford to work for minimum wage, so be prepared to pay a normal salary. These folks will negotiate a wage if you'd just let them show you their talents and skills. But it is cheaper in the short run to fire an engineer or coder when he/she gets older because they cost so much salary and benefit wise, compared to the HB1 indentured servant who will work for peanuts and provide long hours to avoid the risk of being sent home.
We are losing jobs at the bottom and the middle, due to the one-two bunch of illegal immigration and HB1 visas. The senate (both dems and repubs) has screwed the American worker.
God help the American worker. When he/she is gone, then the big corporations will realize they killed the goose that laid the golden egg!
During his hearing in Congress, one of the senators stated that Hayden was new to human intelligence so how did he expect to head up the CIA. Hayden corrected him by reviewing his career appointments, back at least as far as Guam, IIRC. If Greg Kelly is repeating inaccurate info, then he is using the same talking points as the misinformed senator was using.
Is there such a thing as a FTN replay? Or anyone compulsive enough to have taped it?
Why do you assume that? Why would anyone invent a machine (or simply a better way of doing something) so long as unscrupulous employers have dirt poor labor to exploit? There's no reason to invent something to do it by machine when you can hire people to do the work for a couple of bucks an hour (if that).
After Cesar Chavez unionized the farm workers in California and they started to get "livable" wages there was a rush of automated systems and new ways of doing things in the fields that eliminated about 60% of the manual labor those workers were doing.
The market is the best way to work these things out. And before you say it, the folks employing illegal workers are NOT "letting the market work it out," they're cheating. If they cheat at one thing it's highly likely they're cheating at other things, like OSHA regulations, not using toxic chemicals, paying their taxes, etcetera, etcetera...
