Harris has advantage in suddenly crowded Republican Senate field

TAMPA, Fla. - For months Republican leaders tried finding a candidate to take on Katherine Harris in the U.S. Senate primary, and now a recent poll shows Republican voters want an alternative to the woman who was once a party hero.

But even so she appears a safe bet to win the Republican nomination because GOP voters now have too many choices and know too little about them.

As Republican leaders failed to find a strong candidate to get in the race, three men stepped forward to challenge Harris for the right to face incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson. All put their names on the ballot on the last day to qualify, and the list made many ask "Who are these guys?"

Per Article II, Section IV of FR posting rules and regulations, just after the Ann Coulter rule and before the Catherine Zeta-Jones rule: I shall post pics of Florida's next Senator, Katherine Harris.

I don't understand what's not to like about this woman. She went to BAT for Bush in the 2000 election.

Because the RNC is full of country-clubbing, good-old boys who see Harris as a threat to their network.

I for one welcome the challengers squaring off against Harris though. If one of them beats Harris, I have no problem supporting that person, unlike the Harris bashers who won't support her no matter what.

She had to, she WAS the Florida Secretary Of State.

I didn't know two of her opponents are Democrats.

I take back my previous statement of supporting the nominee if Harris loses.

You do admit that she was under unprecedented pressure, and that she handled it quite well. That's the main focus here and not that it was part of her job.

She did her job to the letter, it's clear to most of the nation and the USSC the Democrats and their cohorts in the FLSC were stealing the election by skirting existing laws and enforcing laws that didn't even exist.

Please, pictures of Katherine with either of the Bushes should be prohibited. They have only served to undermine her run for the Senate.

Collins and Monroe acknowledge that beating her will be difficult and both said they are largely counting on unpaid media to get their message out...McBride won't talk about the race - at least not yet.

Sums it up succinctly for three men with a plan...

From Politics1.com:

U.S. SENATOR:

Bill Nelson (D)*
LeRoy Collins Jr. (R) - Retired Navy Officer & Son of Ex-Gov. Collins
Katherine Harris (R) - Congresswoman, Ex-Secretary of State & Ex-State Sen.
Will McBride (R) - Attorney
Peter Monroe (R) - Developer & Ex-Resolution Trust Corporation Oversight Board President

It sounds as though Collins is a Reagan Democrat turned Republican -- correct me if I've gathered the wrong impression. Monroe sounds like the most liberal of the bunch. I thought the story explained that McBride wasn't the more famous McBride that is a Democrat. Again, correct me if I've gathered the wrong impression.

I read her website, she has been endorsed by Mel Martinez. Her stated position on immigration would seem to favor the recent senate bill. I called her campaign, and asked for a clarification on her immigration position. How would she reconcile the house and senate bills? I was referred to the communications director, and no one returned my calls. So far, I have challenged her campaign to take a stand on the "RED TIDE," immigration reform, the fair tax, and oil drilling in the gulf of Mexico. She apparently thinks that she can defeat Bill Nelson by appealing to The Coral Ridge evangelicals and Bushies, who's main issues she believes to be the war on terror, abortion and gay marriage.

Her idea of a Florida campaign is to kiss up to Sean Hannity with platitudes. Is Karen a open borders, church lady republican?

Anyone who waited this long to get in the race doesn't deserve it.

I like her. The problem is that she's 30 points behind a weak Democrat in a GOP state. Surely we can field someone who has a better chance of winning than that.
