US officials have told AFP the group has received US money and is one of several it is working with to contain the threat of Islamic radicals.
Screw containment, kill the animals.

Actually it was the first President Bush that went there for "humanitarian reasons."

http://cato.org/pubs/fpbriefs/fpb-020.html In his December 4, 1992, address to the nation officially announcing Operation Restore Hope, President Bush stressed both the humanitarian purpose and the limited nature of the U.S. military intervention in Somalia:
"Our mission has a limited objective--to open the supply routes, to get the food moving, and to prepare the way for a U.N. peace-keeping force to keep it moving. This operation is not open-ended. We will not stay longer than is absolutely necessary."

Was there in fall of 1992, before the major American involvement on the ground. Flying in food to NGO. Mog was a SH**hole then. No roofs and everything stripped. After a battle the 'technicals' would pull in front of the NGO 'hospitals' (Bidoa), move the Westerners out, go in and shoot the sick and starving in the beds, remove the bodies to the street and place their wounded in.
Somalia is a dump. The most homogeneous country on the planet, (98% are the same tribe, religion, language) and they cant get a long. Who cares.

There are three rules about getting involve in a civil war. One - pick a side; Two - pick the winning side; Three - if you cannot meet rule one and two, do not get involve.

Thanks for the Link and the Education.
Allow me to Cherry-pick just this one paragraph from your link, it bothers me on two different levels
"Bush administration officials emphasize that the intervention in Somalia is a United Nations' operation. As President Bush stressed, not only was the introduction of military forces approved by the Security Council, but troops from approximately a dozen countries will be joining the U.S. units. Colin Powell and other spokesmen have also offered assurances that U.S. forces will be withdrawn as soon as UN "peace-keepers" are available to take over their duties"
(Two Levels = UN and Colin Powell)
Ok Shit Stirred and me without a loaf of bread.
I still want BJ Clinton (without his Secret Service) to personally negotiate with these turds, it was Clinton that sent the Military in without Ammo, it was Clintons MO to withhold Ammo from troops (Somalia or Kosovo), it would be Poetic Justice for the BJ to fear for his life and know that he has NO DEFENSE. Basically I'd just like to put the shoe on the other foot, pipe dream; yeah.

I never disputed Clinton's role in Somalia. I merely pointed out that the first President Bush should have never gone there. I'm aware of the damage Clinton did in Somalia, duh.
If you need profanity to make a point, then it's useless to carry on this discussion.

al-Quida is afraid of AIAI, the Somali Whahabbi front, as they dont really take orders from anyone. They are more concerned with what is happening down the street, not in America.
