"" Plan: retiring back to Maine, and perhaps teaching in a college there. That is, if I can get through an interview. Last one bombed when I cracked up at seeing a picture of the interviewer and Fidel on her wall.""
ROTFLMAO.........My parents were both conservative college professors in boston. Why would you want to do this to yourself?? : )

Why would you want to do this to yourself?? One too many Christmases in Cambodia do that to one. Seriously, I seek faculty employment because I want to understand my own children, at least one or two of whom consider Fidel (and now Chavez!) great leaders.
I keep waiting for some sort of sensible reaction to take place that might swat down the crazed Troktsky-ites who infest colleges, but it never happens. Indeed, it gets worse with each succeeding generation.
One mentions the many millions dead at the hands of international communism, they mention Wounded Knee. You talk about the thousands of political prisoners in Cuba, they talk about how we are killing the planet with Global Warming, after driving to the party in a shiny new Volvo SUV, of course.
Bush, and of course, Nixon=Hitler. Che Guevara, Nelson Mandela=Christ and John the Baptist. These attitudes are prevalent among government employees, too, who reveal them at the slightest indirect provocation.
And, they are very, very serious. This is what Kerry, Gore, and Hillary are about. They could win.

All kidding aside, I think it would be an excellent choice, as long as you like to rumble in the jungle.
My dad told me 25 years ago that in his English dept, there were 2 conservatves, and 30 doctrinaire Marxists.

What I was wondering, if, God forbid, John McCain were to receive the Republican nomination for POTUS and John Kerry were to be renominated (another unlikely scenario), John McCain would be as dismissive of the Swift Vets as he was during the 2004 campaign. He had to know that they were telling the truth, yet he dissed them at every opportunity.
Good point. We just have to do everything we can to see that McCaine doesn't get the nomination. We have to vote in the primaries and then go home and pray.

I am sorry to have shirked my duties to JFK, bitt. I had been led to believe that JFK, (who, as you may know, is a hero of the conflict in Vietnam, and is presently the Junior Senator from Massachusetts, holding the very seat formerly held by the Virgin and Martyr, St. John Fitgerald Kennedy, whose initials John F. Kerry shares, along with his Irish Catholic heritage), was thinking of leaving public life and devoting himself to the condiment industry.
This piece of disinformation, no doubt spread as the result of the Swift Boat People's control of the media, had taken me in ... hook, line, and sinker. Also, my former CO was not to be seen anywhere near Capitol Hill during important debates, so I naturally assumed this foul falsehood about his entry into the private sector was true.
I have been working on the Chanukkah in Cambodia reunion boat trip, immersed (so to speak), in the myriad details involved in a riverine adventure of this sort. Thank goodness my former CO has found those old journals, as the details do tend to fade after all those years. I am also planning on a documentary video, which I am offering for sale to Free Republic people in a two-cd set, which includes Al Gore's seminal film on Global Warming.
I feel the truth must be seared, seared I tell you, into everyone's memory, well in advance of JFK's election to the Presidency.
Thank God I learned the truth before it was too late to set the record straight before the election of '08.
