Rapid ... commandos secure Dili airport as the first members of the force touch down
Welcome ... East Timorese have been happy to welcome the biggest single Australian military deployment since the 1999 Interfet operation
Airlift ... troop transport planes have been used to evacuate Australians from the danger zone
Recovery ... troops have brought much-needed medical equipment and supplies with them
Welcome ... troops' arrival was enthusiastically welcomed by locals, including this group at Dili airport

Austrlia and New Zealand will be it for Anglo-Saxon culture.
Iceland and Finland have no significant immigration so they won't be losing their culture.

Costello was right. Muslims and other minority cultures have to start adhering to their side of the bargain and accepting Australian culture, law and values.
In a wide-ranging speech in Sydney, Peter Costello decried "mushy, misguided multiculturalism" and declared that there was no place for Islamic Sharia law in a secular society like Australia.
Anyone who believes Islamic sharia law can co-exist with Australian law should move to a country where they feel more comfortable, Treasurer Peter Costello says.
All Australian citizens must adhere to the framework in society which maintains tolerance and protects the rights and liberties of all, he said.
It is a pre-condition for citizenship of Australia.
Mr Costello was giving a speech on the meaning of Australian citizenship to the Sydney Institute.
"There is one law we are all expected to abide by," Mr Costello said.
"It is the law enacted by the parliament under the Australian constitution.
"If you can't accept that, then you don't accept the fundamentals of what Australia is and what it stands for." continued |
