PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President and Mrs. Bush and their long-time friends, former Commerce Secretary Don Evans and his wife, are spending Memorial Day weekend together at Camp David. There is speculation in the media that the President may ask Mr. Evans to become the next Treasury Secretary.

Today, the President traveled to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, to give the commencement address to the Corps of Cadets.

SCHEDULE UPDATE: NOTE -- so far, new Press Secretary Tony Snow has not been annoucing the Week Ahead in his press briefings. Scott McClellan has stopped doing it regularly some time ago, and I can't help but wonder if it isn't due to security concerns.

_ Rwanda's President Paul Kagame will meet with President Bush in Washington May 31 for talks on development, AIDS relief, events in Sudan, and other issues.

_ President Bush will welcome President Manuel Zelaya Rosales of Honduras to the White House on June 5, 2006, to highlight the friendship and cooperation between the United States and Honduras, an important regional ally. The two leaders will discuss the expansion of free trade and economic growth, and continuing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

_ The First Lady will speak June 6 at the first 'Helping America's Youth' regional conference, at the University Place Conference Center, Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis.

_ Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi of Japan will visit the President at the White House on June 29, 2006.

_ President Bush will welcome Prime Minister Harper of Canada to the White House on July 6, 2006.

Ever notice how the Dept of the Interior is in charge of everything on the exterior?

What a great picture of the day! I salute him, too!

It's a wonderful photo -- and I'm right there with you saluting him, BTW. :)

Hi Maj. I guess in #4 they had just settled down for the opening ceremonies and were kind of just gathering in the sights.

It seems a strange tradition throwing the caps in the air.

I've never really thought about it, but I guess it is. HS and college graduates do this too.

Now you've challenged me to try and find out how this started ;-)

Those kids work so hard...

They really do, for four long years. It is great to see them so happy.

What beautiful uniforms they have.

They just spent four years having their lockers and living quarters inspected at the drop of a hat, being put on report if their uniforms and equipment weren't spotless, etc. Those uniforms better be beautiful. ;-)

And the first shot in # 5, good 'un!

Agree. On most days it would have been Photo of the Day.

He's much too humble to ever recognize it, but there's a lot of Truman in this president. If the history books don't recognize it, the Almighty will.

Very, very well said.

Difficult to pick which photo is my favorite.

They are terrific, aren't they. My favorite is the Photo of the Day for its photographic excellence and rich symbolism, but on a human level this one's my favorite:

I feel sorry for her future husband!

You never know... ;-)

I do, however, feel sorry for the enlisted personnel under her command.

I wanted to see Cadet Liu's face and did a google search for her. Looks like she appeared on a Prairie Home Companion.
