Hastert's principled defense of the Constitution's Speech and Debate Clause won't help Jefferson (and really has nothing to do with him).

Jefferson's going down.

Jefferson's brother-in-law, a former state judge, recently was convicted of mail fraud in a wide-ranging investigation of bail bond corruption in suburban New Orleans.

The brother-in-law, Alan Green, was the 14th defendant convicted in the investigation called "Operation Wrinkled Robe." The others, including a former judge, Ronald Bodenheimer (search), pleaded guilty.

They also raided five other locations, including the Kentucky and New Jersey offices of iGate Inc., a high-tech firm that has become central to the investigation, along with a house in Potomac owned by Atiku Abubakar, the vice president of Nigeria.

In summer 2004, Pfeffer, Mody, Jefferson and others met in New Orleans at the law firm of one of Jefferson's daughters, who provided the legal work for the business deal.

I'm starting to doubt this will go anywhere. They can't even get a misdemeanor indictment of McKinney when they have her on tape hitting a police officer.

As long as he's on trial from October 1 to November 10 th, I don't care if they let him go. As a matter of fact I hope they do. That way he will serve as an ongoing example of how crooked rats get away with everything. If he is removed from office we'll only get another Black liberal rat in his place,so he'll do nicely instead.

God forbid if this were a Republican. Let's say Denny Hastert was caught with $90,000 wrapped up like Lasagna in foil and found in his Freezer. The Leftist's in the MSM would have a field day with it. The news would have been plastered everywhere. Every Sunday talk show would be yacking about it. But becasue William Jefferson is a black guy and a democRAT he gets a pass.
