House GOP draws line on immigration

WASHINGTON -- House Republican leaders yesterday refused to yield on immigration, insisting that any bill to emerge from upcoming House-Senate negotiations will contain no provisions for undocumented immigrants to become citizens.

House leaders' refusal to budge could make President Bush's goal of passing comprehensive immigration reform impossible to achieve this year. Senate leaders, backed by Bush, favor a plan to allow some undocumented immigrants to apply for guest worker visas, but they contend that denying such workers an eventual path to citizenship could create a permanent underclass.

It isn't any steenking "Guest worker visa", it is permanent residence, a Green Card. I would think that our MSM profesional journalists, what with all their journalistic standards and official editors and everything wouldn't make such fundamental mistakes.

If you get enough speeding tickets they will take away your drivers license. President Bush and the Senate wanta give em a brand new car with a full tank of gas.

Speeding laws are enforced. Laws are not enforced agains illegal immigrants.

Remember when the Republican party used to be the party of common sense conservative solutions? McCain and Bush are emulating the Democrats in becoming the party of double-talk (hence: their definition of "amnesty"), etc.

Somebody help me out here. How can it a guest worker program create a PERMANENT under class when, by definition, guests eventually go home?

McCain isn't a conservative and I'm starting to wonder if Bush is. Oh, I forgot, he's a "compassionate conservative." That's someone whose conservatism can be easily trumped by pandering to friends and special interests.

It's amazing how well being up for election every two years improves ones hearing and cognitive abilities.

Just wait till the Senate figures out just how long memories can get now that access to their records has become instant and universal with the rise of the Internet.

I would rather the Republicans be a minority party that stands for something than a majority party that stands for nothing (which is what the GOP Senate has become).
